The Phillies have signed left-handed reliever Tim Mayza to a one-year contract, bringing him back to Philadelphia for a third season.

Mayza (‘18) pitched for three years with the Marauders before being drafted by the Blue Jays in the 12th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in 2017 with Toronto and pitched with the team until 2024.

The left-hander enjoyed a career year in 2023, pitching to a 1.52 ERA over 69 games, but struggled the following year before being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays that summer. Mayza signed a minor league contract with the Yankees and contributed to the major league team, pitching in 15 games down the stretch in the Bronx as well as three additional games during the Yankees’ World Series run.

Mayza signed with the Pirates in 2025 but missed most of the season with a lat strain and a teres major injury. He returned late in the summer but was placed on release waivers at the end of August, where he was picked up by the Philadelphia Phillies for the first time. After the 2025 season ended, he signed a minor league contract over the winter, which was turned into a major league contract at the end of spring training this year.

This season, Mayza pitched to a 3.48 ERA over 60 games. He faced one batter in the 2026 playoffs during Game 3 of the Wild Card series, an eventual 6-2 loss. His contract was announced during President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski’s end-of-season press conference on Oct. 15. The contract was officially announced by the team on Oct. 16, and is worth $2.75 million.

As a Phillie, Mayza has posted a 3.62 ERA in 68 games. For his career, he has a 3.80 ERA in 442 games over nine seasons.

The Class of 2018 graduate earned his bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies with a concentration in sport business, as well as a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University.
