Breaking down the last month or so, Philadelphia sports and the fans have been in shambles. It started around the middle of September when the Philadelphia Phillies were on the verge of elimination from the MLB postseason, with the team earning the last wild-card spot. This briefly brought some joy to the team. However, when the team faced the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies lost the series 2-1 in the wild-card round. This was not the end of the road of misery for Philadelphia fans though; with the Philadelphia Eagles losing their last four games.
The Eagles lost to the Chicago Bears 31-7. Then they lost a close game to the Rams. The Eagles led for most of the game, but the Rams came back for the win, with a final score of 24-20 in favor of the Rams. Finally, last week, the Eagles played the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, and lost the game with 8 seconds remaining. The final score was 19-17. The team then fell short to the Carolina Panthers, the final score being 25-14. The Eagles also have multiple players injured, over 30 are currently on the injured list. Even worse for the team, quarterback Jalen Hurts has been put on the injury reserved list. He will be missing for at least the next four weeks.
That is not the end for the Eagles, though, because the team lost one of their top tackles in Lane Johnson when he retired. Another change was that the team traded away Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens. This has created a little bright side for the team’s future, due to an overwhelming draft asset return, massive financial savings, and his recent decline in performance, but nonetheless they lost another experienced piece of their offense.
The biggest aspect of Philadelphia sports is the Flyers, who have only recently won their first game in the season. This is a big deal because last season the flyers made it in the post season, but then opened their current season with a 7-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers won against the Ottawa Senators 3-1, but this year things have not been working out in their favor. We shall see what the future holds for the team.
The Sixers still have not played their first game yet, but the so-called super team may or may not fall apart; something fans will have to wait and see. The reason for concern is that, during one of the Sixers’ preseason games, Ariel Hukporti, though he is not a part of the team’s core group, showed that he could become an important contributor to the roster the Sixers are building. The Sixers have been looking decent in the preseason so we shall see what the season holds for the roster additions they added in the postseason.
