Ready to defy gravity, again? Universal Pictures will release “Wicked: For Good” in theaters on Nov. 21, marking almost one year from the first film’s release. “Wicked: For Good” is two hours and 17 minutes, slightly shorter in run time than the first film. This second part of the Wicked series will answer many of the audience’s questions from the first film. Director Jon M. Chu and returning actors have teased elements of the new film in many recent interviews.

Cynthia Erivo, a returning actor who plays Elphaba, discusses the transformation of her character.

“She’s a little bit unbridled compared to other characters. She’s a little bit looser, especially in the second movie,” said Erivo. “She’s just got a little bit more fire in her than the other characters.”

In addition to the songs from the Broadway musical, the movie will feature two new songs. According to an NBC article, Elphaba will sing “No Place Like Home” to the people of the Land of Oz. Erivo worked with Stephen Schwartz, the Wicked songwriter, to capture Elphaba’s true emotions after she leaves Emerald City. “The Girl in the Bubble” is the other new song that will be featured in “Wicked: For Good.” Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, will sing this song to show her internal conflict as she has parted from her friendship with Elphaba.

To further tease this film, NBC presented “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” on Nov. 6. This two-hour special featured sections of both aforementioned songs and other live performances by Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode. If you missed it, you can stream this special on Peacock.

Before you know it, “Wicked: For Good” will be released. Watch the first film if you have not already, or rewatch it to refresh your memory. Buy your tickets to experience this cultural phenomenon that you won’t want to miss!
