Ah yes, winter, the time of year that consists of two of the most capitalistic holidays; Christmas and Valentine’s Day. While you feel that Christmastime cheer and that love in the air, it’s hard to ignore the cold, icy, and windy weather outside. As someone who likes snow, I like snow to an extent. This year, in particular, has been very snow heavy, however, with snow comes ice, which throws a curve into any plans you may have had.

This brings me to winter birthdays. As someone whose birthday is the day before Valentine’s Day, it’s always been a struggle to plan things in accordance with the weather. One year we got snowed and iced in so bad two weekends in a row that my birthday got scrapped entirely that year. Let’s just say, nine-year-old Payje was very sad.

This is why summer birthdays are the best time of year. Want to have your birthday at an amusement park? Great! Just have to hope for no rain, the same applies to a pool party. Growing up with an inground pool, I always wanted to have a pool party for my birthday, but alas, swimming when it’s quite literally frozen over outside isn’t the most ideal situation. Sure, you can have an “end of the school year” pool party, but that just doesn’t have the same effect as a birthday pool party.

Nowadays, it’s more like having to trek through the ice and snow to walk from location to location in the freezing cold, hoping you don’t slip and eat the ground. It might just seem like I hate winter, but I really don’t. Christmas happens to be my favorite holiday. There are just so many upsides to having a summer birthday. However, I can think of one positive thing about having a winter birthday, which is you can do snowy activities when it’s actually snowing outside.

Summer birthdays will always be superior, so a message to future summer babies. Do not take it for granted, because what you have is a blessing.
