Tate McRae dropped a single on Friday, Sept. 26. “TIT FOR TAT” spills all the drama on all the rumors circulating about her and The Kid Laroi’s tumultuous relationship. McRae teased the song on her “Miss Possessive” tour and dropped this song as the lead single to the upcoming deluxe edition of her February 2025 album, “So Close To What.”

McRae and Laroi started to hear rumors of a possible breakup in July 2025, after Laroi posted a seemingly shady tweet hinting at the couple’s split. Laroi claimed that he did not authorize the tweet to come out.

“So y’all know I have NOTHING to do with this and I DO NOT co-sign this behavior whatsoever. working to get these removed.” Laroi said on X, stating that he and McRae were on good terms.

However, on Sept. 5, Laroi dropped the song “A COLD PLAY,” seemingly targeted at McRae. Despite the song being released in September, it is said that the song was originally written in July, but was dropped a month and a half later. Laroi details how he thought he gave his heart out to McRae, just for them to have to do long distance, and he can’t fix her.

But, just three weeks later, McRae released her response track, which McRae made sure to confirm that the song was written just two weeks before its release. McRae detailed in the song that she thought she could maybe love Laroi again, but “last night, she answered my call, it sealed the deal,” McRae says in the chorus.

Despite Laori supposedly pouring his heart out, he was actually seeing other people behind McRae’s back. McRae wants to clear up any confusion for people who might be getting the wrong idea about their situation.

As a fan of McRae for a while now, I love that she brings this style of writing back, break-up anthems over a good beat, such as her song “Messier” off of her album “Think Later.” The one thing that is sad about this situation is that McRae and Laori have written multiple songs together, mainly unreleased, but most notably “I Know Love” off of her most recent album, “So Close To What.”

So there is no chance those unreleased songs will see the light of day with the release of both of these recent songs from the pair.
