The University Activities Board at Millersville is making their new semester resurgence once again. So far this semester, UAB has hosted events ranging from EPPIIC weekend bingo, a movie on the quad, the poster sale, and the reoccurring foam party. This time around, UAB arranged to take students to the Philadelphia Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park on Sept. 13, 2025.

UAB has hosted far-distance travel events for students before. Last year alone, the club took students to the following places: Hershey Park, Baltimore, Field of Screams, Sky Zone, snow tubing at Roundtop Mountain, New York City, and even a trip to the King of Prussia mall. This time around, a trip to the Philadelphia Phillies game marks a new adventure for the club.

Catherine Samer, the Director of Travel for UAB, spoke about the process to make this trip come alive, “Over the summer I worked with the Phillies Group Ticket Office to find and purchase the tickets along with the Millersville Business Office to pay for the tickets,” Samer said. “Once that is settled, I contact a bus company to work through the transportation details and sign a contract to pay for the bus.”

Students had tickets in one section together, but were encouraged to explore Citizens Bank Park and enjoy the game. “I had a lot of fun. This was the first Phillies game that I’ve been to where I can remember, because I went as a kid,”said attendee Erin Krauss. “Now, I can actually remember it and it was a lot of fun. I saw my favorite player and I got a ball.”

When discussing the importance of being the club to bring students together for activities like this, Samer said, “Students come to Millersville from many different areas and I love allowing students to explore new places and  go back to comforting places that they may have gone often to when they were growing up or live nearby. It’s also great to spend time doing things outside of classes with your friends and meeting new people.”

Krauss also noted that “[UAB] has a really good outreach where they contact the students and ask them what they want to do for travel trips, and then they’re able to come through with it.” The University Activities Board is a club that, for a majority, utilizes student opinion when it comes to planning. Samer says that while UAB brainstorms events at the beginning of the semester, they then utilize their Instagram page to narrow down decisions based on student-voted polls and question boxes.

As UAB expands to new ideas and new locations to visit, such as their pending Longwood Gardens trip, many realize that these plans not only encourage student discovery, but also help students be adventurous. “By going on travel trips I hope students enjoy new opportunities and learn about the community around them. Lancaster is in a great spot near lots of major cities and experiences so it is great to take advantage of all of these things”, says Samer.

An important note for trips, Samer revealed, is that “tickets go live the Monday before the trip and they have to be purchased in the ticket office. Most trips cost between $5-$15, but even the free trips require you to get a ticket from the ticket office. If students have any questions about the trips they can DM us on our Instagram.”

UAB is set to finish off this week with Peanuts, Snoopy, and Charlie Brown bingo happening on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. and a trip to Hershey Park on Saturday, Sept. 20 with a purchase of tickets. For more information, go to UAB’s Instagram @villeuab for details.
