Picture this: It’s been a long afternoon. You just finished three back-to-back classes. You’re tired, you’re hungry, and you just want to lie in bed and watch something mindless. You pick up the TV remote and click on Netflix. One problem: it only works in one household, and that is four hours away. So next, you pick Disney. New problem: your family forgot to renew the subscription. Now what?

Solution: Tubi!

Tubi is a free streaming platform featuring a wide variety of movies and shows. Users can either create a free account or use it in “guest mode.” It showcases popular Hollywood pictures and small creator-made films. Like any other platform, the media selection rotates, but that makes it even more fun.

You wouldn’t expect a free streaming platform to have movies that are all that good, but you’d be surprised what you find on there. It currently features classics such as “The Outsiders” (1983), “Save the Last Dance” (2001), “Uptown Girls” (2003), and “12 Angry Men” (1957). You can also find episodes of “Scooby-Doo,” “Teen Titans,” “Tom and Jerry,” and “Dance Moms.” Occasionally, entire franchises can make an appearance on the site, such as the Jurassic Park and Twilight franchises.

However, my favorite part about Tubi is not the mainstream movies that everyone watches, but finding hidden low-budget movies that might not be of the best quality, but bring a lot of entertainment. Some of these are Tubi Original movies, all of which I found myself truly enjoying. Others include parodies, like “The Starving Games” (2013) and “Pity I Don’t Have Perfect Pitch Too” (2017). And of course, my favorite genre of Tubi movies: the shark movies. These include “House Shark,” “Sand Shark,” “Avalanche Shark,” “Sharknado,” “2-Headed Shark Attack,” “Jurassic Shark,” and so many more.

Tubi is great for satisfying any type of genre mood you’re in. Want a tearjerker? It has “Bones and All” (2022). A romcom? There’s “The Hating Game” (2021). Want to relive your childhood? Watch “Spy Kids” (2001). Maybe you’re in the mood for an Adam Sandler classic. You can watch “Pixels” (2015). Maybe you just want a fun night with your friends and need something dumb to laugh at. I recommend “Bad CGI Gator” (2023).

Now, I’m not saying you should cancel all of your streaming service subscriptions. Just don’t overlook the beauty of Tubi. You never know what hidden gem you could find next.
