Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) hosted a fundraiser on Oct. 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the goal of all donations going towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. With a five dollar entry fee, many students could contribute towards helping this charitable cause.

Cory Engle, a risk management major, serves as Pylortes, Philanthropy Chair, and one of the few people to put the fundraiser event together.

“We raised a little over $600 which we felt was a great start to an event that could raise thousands,” Engle wrote.

TKE has been documenting their contribution to St. Jude’s on their Instagram since 2019. This corresponds to Grand Prytanis Christopher T. Hanson announcing on Aug. 3, 2019 that the fraternity will be making record level contributions toward the hospital.

“It is a great honor to share with you our next step in helping to achieve Frater Danny Thomas’s dream that ‘no child should die in the dawn of life.’ Today, we make history,” said Hanson, according to the fraternity’s website. “Today, we dedicate ourselves to building a better world by making the largest commitment by any men’s fraternity to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Today, we officially begin our campaign to raise $10 million over the next ten years for the children of St. Jude.”

TKE at Millersville is helping follow the path set by the national organization to contribute towards this $10 million goal.

It’s extremely important for us to follow this tradition since TKE across the nation donates thousands towards the St. Jude’s Foundation to help fight the constant battle with childhood cancer,” Engle wrote. “For how we advance society I would say that it directly relates to our motto, ‘better men for a better world’, by raising money for a good cause it’s teaching our brothers how to collaborate and finance for the real world while also teaching good morals by donating to a cause larger than ourselves.”
