This NFL season has had a lot of storylines through the first seven weeks, but one of the biggest storylines has been the New York Jets. And no, not because they are 0-7. The Jets are now 5-2 on the season, their best record in about as long as anyone can remember. But, not everything is all sunshine and rainbows, as is expected with the Jets.
Jets second-year wide receiver Elijah Moore has requested a trade from the Jets. The reason as to why is because of his frustration with his usage within the Jets offense. Moore believes that he should be getting the ball more, and he’s not wrong. In the Jets win against Green Bay, Moore was only targeted once, and that target was negated by a penalty. However, there is one slight problem with Moore’s theory: the Jets are actually winning games. The focal point of the Jets offense throughout the entire season has been on the run game. Breece Hall, a 2022 second round pick, has already left his mark as one of the best young running backs in the game, and so the Jets have been formulating their game plans around getting the run going.
If the Jets are winning games this way, then it’s quite strange that Moore would be complaining. Football is about winning the game and playing for the team, not personal stats. While getting Moore involved would help the offense, the run game and a stout defense has been enough for the Jets to be 5-2. Any player that is focusing more on personal stats instead of winning games shouldn’t be on that team. But, the Jets have already made it quite clear that Moore will not be traded. Moore was inactive for Sunday’s win against the Denver Broncos, but it is unclear if he will play against the Patriots in week eight.
But, maybe Elijah Moore will get his wish. In the Jets win against the Broncos, Breece Hall and wide receiver Corey Davis went down with injuries. Corey Davis seems to be alright, but Breece Hall’s initial prognosis on his knee wasn’t good, according to head coach Robert Saleh in his post-game press conference. To any savvy football fan, that means one thing: an ACL tear. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but that is the belief at the moment. With Hall now potentially out for the year, the Jets may need to turn towards the passing game to get the offense moving. Of course, calling this a good thing is horrible, but based on Moore’s comments, this could be the best thing for him in his eyes.
Elijah Moore has completely alienated himself from the locker room and the fanbase, who are calling for Moore to be shipped out like Jamal Adams. However, there is one substantial difference between Elijah Moore and Jamal Adams. Adams was already one of, if not the best, safety in the league. Moore has played in only 17 career games, and is requesting a trade like he is already at the caliber of Stephon Diggs. As a Jet fan who bought Moore’s jersey, I think I speak on behalf of everyone in the fanbase by saying that Moore needs to grow up.
