As the files related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation continue to be released, the general public is outraged. Across multiple social media platforms, both content creators and users alike are sharing their dismay at the abhorrent acts documented in the release of these recent files. On Friday, Jan. 30, the Department of Justice released over three million emails, reports, and evidence from the case. As people started to comb through the files, they began to uncover the graphic content within them.
Across social media platforms, users would express their frustration with the files and the “lack of action” coming as a result of it. “You are forced at gunpoint to pay taxes to the people covering up the Epstein files, so they can turn around, enrich themselves and their friends, and still dare to tell you it is for your own good. You are not mad enough,” stated Dylan Allman, an internet blogger on X. The phrase “You are not Mad enough,” and other variations of it, are trending on social media. As a rally cry against the depravity of the situation.
In the midst of the fire, misinformation has spread like an inferno. One notable example is the AI-generated image of Zohran Mamdani floating around, with the image depicting Mamdani when he was a kid with his mother, Mira Nair, with Epstein. Mira Nair is a filmmaker with decent high-level success, leading many on the Internet to believe the photo was real. The spread of AI images has led to a rise in many conspiracy theories, many of which lack credibility due to their AI origins.
Despite the outcry, the reaction to the files has led to a rare bipartisan convergence, both on the left and right. A broader sentiment of anti-elitism is growing, and many are feeling disillusioned with the political confines of the typical partisan viewpoints.
“The Epstein class is going to go, and the reason they’re going to go is that the progressive Left and the MAGA right, and everyone in between, is finally waking up against this rotten system,” said Rep. Ro Khanna of California. Influencers, even on the right, have begun to show their discontent with the controversy around the files.
Liz Wheeler, a prominent conservative content creator, stated, “When [officials] began to promise things about Epstein and then not deliver them, the base was stung by this because we have been wounded by politicians lying and covering up and obfuscating for the past decade.”
Another right-wing influencer, Jack Posobiec, publicly denounced the way the case was handled.
“Incredible how utterly mismanaged this Epstein mess has been. And it didn’t have to be… Every single client involved should have an FBI agent at their door,” Posobiec said, referring to how the DOJ and FBI failed to redact several of the victims’ names.
As more files continue to be released, they have become a fixed point of agreement among the American public. Both sides of the political spectrum are beginning to come together in protest over the lack of initiative on the government’s end. As well as actively taking down files, getting caught, and then reuploading them. As to what is to come of it, many continue to believe that nothing will be done. That the status quo will remain, and the public will have to live with the haunting information contained in those files.
“It’s not something of a bygone era where we had past tense all of these people at the highest echelons of government who were in some way involved with Jeffrey Epstein—it’s still happening, it’s right in front of us… The Trump orbit is the nebulous blob of people, in part, that they’re trying to protect.” — Brian Tyler Cohen
