3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold passed away at the age of 47 from stage four kidney cancer on Saturday, Feb. 7. Arnold was diagnosed in May 2025 with clear cell renal cell carcinoma, which ultimately spread to his lungs.
Before his diagnosis, 3 Doors Down was booked and busy with festivals, as well as touring with Creed through the summer and fall of 2025. Following the announcement, Daughtry took 3 Doors Down’s place on Creed’s summer tour and other festival dates, such as Boardwalk Rock in Ocean City, Maryland, and Creed’s “Summer of 99” festival in Wisconsin.
Daughtry frontman, Chris Daughtry, shared a heartfelt tribute to the late rock star on his personal Instagram,“I will always cherish the moments I got to spend with him on stage and off stage. I’m gonna miss you brother. Rest easy. I love you.”
Daughtry is not the only notable person to pay tribute to the late artist. Guy Fieri, Sevendust, Scott Stapp, and Hardy also paid tribute to the rocker.
3 Doors Down is most notably known for their songs from their 2002 album “Away From The Sun.” Which features hits like “When I’m Gone”, “Here Without You”, and “Away From The Sun.” However, their most notable song with over a billion streams on Spotify is “Kryptonite” from their 2000 debut album “The Better Life.”
However, what most people don’t know about “Kryptonite” is that Arnold wrote the song in his high school math class at the age of 15. Forming 3 Doors Down just three years later, in 1996, at the age of 18. “Kryptonite” was the band’s breakout hit, reaching #3 on the Billboard charts and earning them their first Grammy nomination in 2001.
3 Doors Down is one of the most iconic bands for paving the way for the Post-Grunge/Dad Rock subgenre of rock. Arnold will always be remembered for helping to redefine mainstream rock while blending grunge sounds. He will always be our Superman.
