An investigation has led Pennsylvania College of Technology, an NCAA Division III school and member of the United East Conference, to abruptly cancel the remainder of their baseball season.

The investigation began earlier this month after a tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The team had not played a game since the trip in mid-March, having postponed six consecutive games and several practices to allow for the investigation to be conducted. The school has not provided information about what prompted the investigation, but shared that it has led to within the coaching staff and team roster.

Former MLB catcher and Penn College’s head coach since 2007, Chris Howard,  is no longer listed on the website, along with the college planning to open a national search this spring for the next head coach. It is currently unknown if Howard was fired or resigned.

The college also met with all remaining eligible student-athletes to assess whether there would be enough players to safely have a team, which was left with volunteer strength and conditioning coach Ken Hamer as their sole coach, and 28 athletes.

“After careful consideration and a review of all available options in this complex situation, the college has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the 2026 baseball season,” Penn College said. “The college remains committed to supporting its student-athletes and moving the baseball program forward.”

Penn College is aware of the speculation surrounding the investigation, sharing in their statement, “To ensure accuracy, the college encourages the community to rely on information shared through official college communications. To protect individual privacy and the integrity of the review process, the college will not provide additional comment at this time.”

Penn College remains upholding their commitment to student-athletes, with eligible team members continuing to have access to team resources to maintain fitness and continuing to develop skills.
