Fall is here, which means football is officially back at Millersville University. The Marauders have had a hot start to the season, winning games against Saint Anselem and, most recently, Gannon University. This marks the first time since 2005 that the Millersville football team has started the season 2-0. Sophomore quarterback Robert Footman Jr. looks more confident at the helm after an impressive freshman campaign.

The win against Gannon could not have come without the late game heroics from the sophomore quarterback. Late in the fourth quarter, with the game nodded at 21 a piece, Footman Jr. scrambles out of the pocket and delivers a strike to receiver Kam Taylor in the endzone to give Millersville the lead. On the day, Footman would throw for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the way to the win.

The Millersville defense has also proved to be a formidable group, holding Gannon scoreless in the first half and only allowing seven points the week prior against Saint Anselm. Through late last season and early into this one, the Marauders have been able to force teams into costly turnovers, setting up their offense in favorable field position.

“We have a defense that is battle tested. That’s the experience that is paying off. They know not to panic. That is something you have to grow into” said Millersville head coach J.C. Morgan in his postgame conference.

With a solid defense and a young emerging quarterback, the Marauders are set up for success in 2023 and beyond.
