The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the 2025 World Series in seven games, beating the

Toronto Blue Jays in a hotly contested Fall Classic. With their win, they are MLB’s first repeat World Series winners since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees.

Dodgers’ starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named the World Series MVP, after throwing a complete game in Game 2, six innings of one-run ball in Game 6, and 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in Game 7, ultimately closing out the series. Overall, in three games, Yamamoto pitched in 17.2 innings, posting a near-spotless 1.02 ERA, striking out 15 and walking just 2.

“I’m just speechless, I really am,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters. “It’s going to go down as one for the ages.”

The series got off to an ominous start for the Dodgers, as Toronto managed to tear apart LA’s bullpen for a nine-run sixth inning, one off the record for most runs scored in a single inning during the World Series. However, the Dodgers rebounded to take Game 2, setting the stage for an instant classic in Game 3.

During Game 3, the Blue Jays and Dodgers played what turned into an instant classic, as a game-tying home run by Shohei Ohtani in the bottom of the seventh eventually turned into one of the longest games in World Series history, with an 18-inning affair that ended with a score of 6-5. Freddie Freeman hit the game-winning home run, giving him his second career walk-off home run in the World Series. Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani reached base a record nine times during the game, including being intentionally walked four times by Blue Jays pitchers.

Toronto won games four and five, with Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leading off Game 5 with back-to-back home runs, marking the first time that had happened in World Series history, while Pottstown native Trey Yesavage struck out 12 batters in just his eight career MLB start, as Yesavage had originally began the year in Single-A Dunedin before skyrocketing through the Jays’ farm system.

Game 6 was a win for the Dodgers, forcing another memorable winner-take-all game to end the series. With the Blue Jays two outs away from winning their first World Series since 1993, veteran Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying home run off ex-All Star closer Jeff Hoffman, and catcher Will Smith hit the game-winning home run in the top of the 11th inning off Shane Bieber.

While the season ended in heartbreaking fashion, the Blue Jays still found themselves on the right side of history. Trey Yesavage’s 12-strikeout outing in Game 5 was a rookie record for strikeouts in a World Series game, and the most by any pitcher with no walks allowed too. Infielder Ernie Clement, a minor league free agent signing before the 2023 season, set a record for most hits in a single playoff run with 30, and reliever Louis Varland set a record for most games pitched in a single postseason, with 15.

The Dodgers and Blue Jays will rematch in LA during the 2026 season from April 6-8. MLB Opening Day for the 2026 season will be on March 25, with a standalone game pitting the San Francisco Giants against the New York Yankees, while the rest of the teams will begin their season on March 26.
