Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant has announced that all its locations will be closing, effective immediately.
Serving craft beers alongside their in-house restaurant in 16 locations over five different states, Iron Hill announced on Sept. 25 that it would be closing via a post made to social media.
“After many wonderful years serving our communities, all Iron Hill locations have closed,” the “Iron Hill Team” stated on the company’s website. “It has been a pleasure to serve you, and we are deeply grateful for the support, loyalty, and friendship over the years.”
The abrupt closings follow the closure of Iron Hill’s original location in Newark, Delaware, two weeks prior on Sept. 10. After its opening 29 years ago, Iron Hill founders Mark Edelson, Kevin Finn, and Kevin Davies had been selling portions of the company to outside investors in hopes of expanding across the East Coast. In an email obtained by The Delaware News Journal, the Iron Hill Team told its employees that the company had filed for bankruptcy, “due to ongoing financial challenges.”
Employees of the chain found out about the closure mere minutes before clocking into their shifts, showing up to their respective work locations to a notice taped on the front door announcing the immediate closure. In an interview with The Delaware News Journal, Jake Nowicki, an employee who had been working with Iron Hill for more than 10 years, describes the situation as “completely disheartening” after discovering the brewery’s closure just ten minutes before his shift.
“We understand that this news is coming with limited notice,” the Iron Hill Team said in their email to their employees. “However, we have been working diligently behind the scenes to secure new sources of funding and explore alternative solutions to avoid this situation.”
Despite the closure, the Iron Hill Team said in their statement on the company’s website that they hope to return in the future.
