On Sept. 14, 2025, Millersville University’s Honors College took a day trip to Washington D.C. For only $5 per seat, students took a coach bus to the nation’s capital to explore different museums and tourist sites. Leaving at 7 a.m. and returning at 10 p.m., the trip was a long day of fun.

“It was a really fun experience that the Honors College provided for us. This was my first time in D.C., and I was able to explore the city with my friends,” said Savannah Bielecki, an Honors College student majoring in biology. “It was really cool to visit all the museums and monuments in person. It was definitely worth the money and time that we spent there, and I would definitely do it again.”

The bus driver dropped students off at the National Mall. Many students went to various Smithsonian museums, such as American history and natural history. Since the Washington D.C. museums are federally funded, students are free to enjoy them at no extra cost. The museums are rich with artifacts and interactive experiences. At the American history museum, for example, students can play “The Price Is Right” to discover the prices of various household items from different decades. The natural history museum also provides opportunities to learn about how the human species has evolved over time.

Washington D.C. is a very walkable city. All in one day, students were able to visit the exterior of the White House, the Capitol building, and the Washington Monument. Students often stopped at each location for photos and selfies. There were many places to eat in Washington D.C. as well–Shake Shack and the Cheesecake Factory were a few student favorites. The city is also filled with food trucks and local restaurants.

Overall, the Honors College’s Washington D.C. trip allowed students to make many fun memories. Special thanks to Dr. Charlton Wolfgang and Kereah Keller for making this trip possible. For more day trips, look out for the Honors’ College trip to New York City this spring!
