For the first time all season, the Eagles dominated the Giants in a win to avoid the season sweep.
Philadelphia ran all over the Giants, which all started with a 65-yard touchdown run by Saquon Barkley. It was his first 20-plus yard run of the season; he had 17 last season. When asked about how the play-calling has improved, Barkley said, “we aren’t detailed (at times), but when it comes together, it’s a thing of beauty.” Saquon wasn’t the only successful runner on the day as back-up Tank Bigsby had over 100 yards rushing as well. It was the first time since December of 2013 that two players had over 100 rushing yards in the same game for the Eagles.
Hurts picked up where he left off against the Vikings with a four-touchdown performance. With Hurts’ performance on Sunday, he’s starting to play himself into the MVP conversation. Hurts has thrown seven touchdowns in his last two games and not only looks in complete control of the offense, but he is making everything look easy to him. Whether it is taking what the defense gives or taking shots down the field, Hurts looks poised and calm under pressure and always seems to make the right play consistently. Hurts said after the game, “I think the best is yet to come.”
The Eagles won 38-20, but the game never felt competitive. The Eagles outgained the Giants by almost 200 yards and averaged 8.4 yards per rush. The only bad stat for the Eagles was their third-down efficiency (25%), but the Eagles were perfect on fourth down, and the defense made the stops when needed.
The Eagles will enter their bye week at a 6-2 record, in command of first place in the NFC East, and just coming off their best game of the season. The Eagles will look to get healthier as they will be expecting A.J. Brown, Cam Jurgens, and Nolan Smith to come back and be able to play after the bye week. The Eagles will be playing the Green Bay Packers after the bye on Monday Night in a pivotal showdown between two great teams battling for the top seed in the NFC. Since 2021, the Eagles have won all three matchups, including the Wild Card round last year that started the Eagles’ Super Bowl run.
With the trade deadline on November 4. The Eagles may make a move at the deadline. The rumor is the Eagles want to make a move for an edge rusher or another cornerback, but with their five-sack performance against the Giants and their ability to slow down the Giants’ passing game, the Eagles may be comfortable with the personnel they currently have, with players soon to come back from injury.
