“My biggest hope for students that attend DMAX is to know that they aren’t alone,” said DMAX president, Molly Binkley. “It takes a village.”
A club focusing on mental health, DMAX returned to Millersville University in the spring 2025 semester. The club aims to create a safe environment for students to talk about their mental health and connect with their peers.
DMAX existed at Millersville in the past, but was forgotten about after previous officers graduated. Binkley rediscovered the organization at a mental health tabling event, and has been a driving force in bringing the club back to Millersville.
Binkley shared, “When I learned what they stood for, I decided that it would be a great opportunity for Millersville students to connect with each other.”
Millersville’s club falls under the overall DMAX foundation, which was started to create connections and conversations to strengthen mental health and well-being for young people. The foundation focuses on establishing and supporting student-led mental health DMAX clubs on college campuses.
“What we use is called the friends helping friends model,” said vice president River Hower. “We are trying to approach it from a more approachable level, make it seem like or and it is that mental health is something that can be talked about between friends and doesn’t just have to be saved for a therapist or a counselor’s office.”
DMAX is based on making connections between friends and peers, but can also be a gateway to additional resources for students, specifically those provided by Counseling Services and the Center for Health Education and Promotion.
The club hopes to continue growing at Millersville, and help the DMAX foundation as a whole.
“We are hoping to continue our outreach to more students to contribute to the overall conversation surrounding mental health! To do this, we hope to collaborate with more clubs and organizations,” said Binkley. “Furthermore, we hope to fundraise some money for the DMAX Foundation so that more schools can open up DMAX clubs too.”
The club has hosted well-being events such as rock painting to help provide a relaxing environment and encourage students to take their minds off the stressors that college can bring to students.
DMAX hosts general meetings every other Tuesday in the Student Memorial Center, with their next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in room 118.
