Davante Adams has become almost a household name in the NFL over the last couple of years as the league’s top receiver. He has had a decent start to the season after he was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders during the offseason, but the team hasn’t performed to expectations. The Raiders lost a close game against the Chiefs during Monday Night Football last week, despite Adams catching 2 touchdowns. After the game, a cameraman ran in front of Adams while he was leaving the field, and Adams reacted by pushing him over. While many didn’t see the act as anything too crazy, the cameraman who was shoved is pressing charges.
This was a very out of character moment for Adams, who has been seen as a pretty standout guy for his whole career. But, it seems that his frustration boiled over at the worst possible moment: right when the camera was on him. Of course, everyone has their worst moments, and Adams was very apologetic speaking to reporters after the game.
According to an article posted on the NFL’s website, Adams had this to say: “Before I say anything, I want to apologize to the guy running off the field… I’m coming off the field and I bumped into him and pushed him… I want to say sorry to him because that was just frustration mixed with him running in front of me…”
It was a frustrating loss for the Raiders, who barely lost to the Chiefs 30-29, the last play of the game ending up with Adams and fellow wide receiver Hunter Renfrow running into each other, resulting in an incomplete pass. If they hadn’t ran into each other, it’s possible that one of them could have made a play on the ball that very well could’ve won the game for the Raiders. That final play, and the blown 17-0 lead by the Raiders, was enough to finally get the usually calm Adams to crack, resulting in what now could land him in a heap of trouble.
The NFL was considering fining or suspending Adams, but now that criminal charges have been pressed, the league will need to wait for those charges to either be dropped, settled, or for Adams to plead guilty. If any of those three scenarios occur, then the league may look to add their own punishment. However, if Adams chooses to fight the charges, then it becomes a matter of a personal conduct violation, which is a much longer process that could get Adams a worse punishment.
