The Center for Health Education and Promotion (CHEP) is back again with their Fall into Wellness Fair. This annual event is known by the campus for enlightening students with resources and activities to prioritize their wellness, whether it be through mental or physical wellbeing.
This event helps CHEP prioritize sharing Millersville University’s nine dimensions of wellness: social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, environmental, financial, occupational, and multicultural.
CHEP’s mission is to “coordinate intentional learning opportunities within the campus community to improve students’ decision making, behaviors, and wellness”, which is accomplished through hosting events such as these.
Student organizations, local businesses, and fraternity & sorority life were invited to table at this event, allowing for a variety of organizations to emphasize wellbeing to students, faculty, and staff. Attending organizations ranged from Millersville’s program in respiratory health, Millersville’s on-campus television station, MUTV, the Yoga Club, Millersville’s It’s On Us chapter, and more. By allowing a range of different organizations to table, CHEP allows for students to realize that wellness is not only taught by wellness-centered organizations, but a multitude of different student activities.
Once attendees visited enough tables, 300 students and 100 faculty members had the opportunity to get a free t-shirt from the event that emphasized the phrase “create a campus culture of well-being”.
Lancaster City Nutrition was also back again to offer the first 300 attendees free lifted energy teas, which are known to be sugar free with a kick of 160 milligrams of caffeine!
CHEP’s next planned event, in collaboration with Campus Life, is Party Smart. This is a tabling event centered on educating about safer choices when socializing, from alcohol harm reduction to active bystander strategies. This event will feature free Cactus Cafe tacos and free mocktails. Students can attend on Nov. 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m in the Student Memorial Center Atrium.
