August has been a whirlwind of emotions for Taylor Swift fans: a new album, which includes a Sabrina Carpenter feature, Taylor Swift went on Travis and Jason Kelce’s shared podcast “New Heights,” and now, most recently, an engagement announcement between the award-winning popstar and Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
Fans are being fed new content from Swift almost daily, with new CD and vinyl variants dropping every few days since the announcement of the album and engagement.
Swift and Travis Kelce have been together for over two years. Swift told fans on “New Heights” that they went on their first date shortly after Kelce went to Swift’s 2023 show at Arrowhead Stadium, but they didn’t officially make things public until September 2023. No, Kelce never gave Swift the friendship bracelet he made her. (At Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” it was a trend to make friendship bracelets to bring to the show and trade with other fans because of a lyric about friendship bracelets in her song “You’re On Your Own Kid.”)
The proposal took place in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Ed Kelce, Travis and Jason’s father, shared the details of the couple’s engagement in an interview with News 5 Cleveland. The pair was about to go out to dinner when Kelce mentioned getting a glass of wine and took her out to the beautiful garden pictured in the post and popped the question. Kelce also told News 5 Cleveland that the couple got engaged right after Swift’s appearance on the “New Heights” podcast.
Swift announced the engagement via Instagram with the caption “Your English and gym teacher are getting married” with a TNT emoji at the end, in reference to the pair’s first initials. Fans on social media had many things to say about the pair’s engagement, with users on X writing, “This is gonna be the closest thing America has ever had to a royal wedding,” “not now sweetie, Taylor is engaged and she used so high school in her ig post,” and “i honestly never knew what kind of ring taylor would go for but now that i see it, it’s like oh, of course that’s taylor swift’s engagement ring. It’s so quintessentially her. It’s perfect.”
The ring Kelce proposed with is a 12-carat cushion-cut diamond in a yellow gold setting to give it that vintage, antique feel. The ring is estimated to be worth around $700,000 according to Zach Stone, a diamond expert from UK jeweller Steven Stone. While plans of a wedding haven’t been announced, it will be quite the sight once things are either announced or posted on social media.
