The 1975 Academy Award winning film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was brought to Millersville on February 23, for an interesting look at the world of insanity. Written by Ken Kesey in 1962 and adapted to film by director Milos Forman, this film reflects life in a mental ward and the crazy patients who voluntarily, and involuntarily, reside there.
“If you enter this world knowing that you’re loved and you leave knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.” These were the famous words of the late Michael Jackson, and despite his death he proved that he was not just an entertainer; but that he was an influence to the world in more ways than one. Music, fashion, and dance have all been influenced by Jackson during some point in time, which is why he was not considered as just a star, but as a fashion icon, an innovator, and most notably the “King of Pop.”
Mondays in Millersville normally involve late classes after the weekend comes to a close, however, Monday, February 22 7:30 p.m. music emanated from Gourdiner to McComsey. The Marian Anderson String Quartet brought a night of entertainment and exceptionally gorgeous music. The event was hosted by the NAACP, the Black Student Union, and the Office of the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences.
“One of my students asked me who Marian Anderson was. I wasn’t surprised when she asked this, but I couldn’t find the words to describe her. So I said, ‘She was sorta’ the Jackie Robinson. Of course, she didn’t know who Jackie Robinson was either.”
There is an epidemic plaguing our Nation, and it is ever so evident at Millersville University. It is a dangerous epidemic that affects people of all ages, races, ethnicities, and genders. Everyone is at risk of contracting this vicious disease called lazy-itis. I’m talking about laziness here.
Q: If you weren’t a communications professor what would you be doing?
A: “I thought I would be in the production business and that’s what I did on my sabbatical but I didn’t like it. Being a professor worked out so well, I would probably be a high school teacher.”

Republican or Democrat? How about neither? As a campaign veteran, former president of my high school’s Young Democrats Club, and a Government and Political Studies Major, I know a little bit about American politics. Enough, at least, to know that after only one year of being a registered voter that I would like to relinquish my party affiliation. It is of my opinion that political parties, while useful in some ways, do more to hurt our democracy then help it.
Millersville University is known for an intensive and comprehensive education program. And as I walked into my first education class four years ago, Cheryl Desmond’s words stuck with me as soon as I heard them: “People first language, always put your students first.” As I approach the ending of my career at Millersville as an Education Major, nothing could be more true. As I student teach and interact with students on a daily basis I am more than thankful for her kind and encouraging words. Students need encouragement and compassion, and that is just a gem of everything Millersville has taught me about education.
“Warming” Hoax?
Ted Taylor
Terrific article, Cameron. Thanks very much for writing it. I always believed in man-made global warming until the recent revelations. Now, I think we have been duped. It makes me mad that we could have been suckered by this “consensus.” And did you see this week, as it turns out, there is and never was any relationship between hurricanes and global warming? The IPCC got that one wrong too. I guess that should have an impact on all the lawsuits that are going on that say electric companies are responsible for Hurricane Katrina etc. What will come out next? I can hardly believe it.
