Superfest is here again. This is a three day fun-filled event, that starts on Thursday, April 16 and goes on until Saturday, April 18.

Superfest has been around for at least six years and every year it attracts both students and faculty to the quad.

Nearing finals, everyone needs a couple of days to relax and de-stress.

It is important to feel refreshed before entering finals week, which for many of us will be filled with sleepless nights and long hours of studying.

Superfest generally has a theme and this year ‘Gone Coastal’ will be the topic. According to the president of the University Activities Board, Don Brennan, 22, “This year’s theme will be beachy and we already have a boardwalk up.”

Events will start on all three days at noon and go on until 4 p.m. There will be games, food and prizes all through out the event.

“Some of the games we have are a surfing inflatable machine, inflatable ski balls, inflatable basketballs, and you can win prizes at the event too,” said Brennan.

Among some of the prizes that are available to win include, Superfest keychains that look like sufboards, salt water taffys, inflatable beach balls, and generally Superfest PR related items.

During the event, about 30 college organizations will have their tables set up with carnival games. Supersoaker, sand art, and ping pong are some of the games that will be available.

In addition to the afternoon events, there will also be activities at night.

On Thursday night the T-Pain concert will start at 8 p.m. but the doors are open at 7 p.m. T-Pain will have at least one opener.

This concert is sponsored by The Black Student Union, Student Senate, Society of Latino Affairs and University Activities Board.

On Friday night there will be a luau in the quad at 6 p.m. In addition to this, there will be pulled pork, professional hula dancers and a lipsyncing contest at 7 p.m.

Also from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be a black lights dance party at the multi-purpose room in the SMC.

The dance party is co-sponsored by the Black Student Union and National Pan-Hellenic Council.

“After 400 people walk in to the MPR, the doors will be closed. So get there early,” said Brennan.

On Saturday, the comedian, Eric O’Shea will be performing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the MPR as well.

The Annual Superfeast will begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday with free food.

Brennan said that there will be pizza, pretzel bites, popcorn and other food items there to go along with the out-door movie.

Role Models will be shown in the quad at 9:30 p.m. and again at midnight at the Club de’Ville.

There are two Superfest chairs, Lauren Schwartz and Nikki Herb, both who are undergraduates at Millersville University.

They have a committee of about 15 students who assist them with planning.

“These two girls plan everything. They start meeting with the committee in September,” said Brennan.

Superfest is a fun-filled event that MU students will be able to enjoy with friends.

Laying on the grass, enjoying a cold smoothie with good friends, being surrounded by laughter and entertainment is just what we need right before we enter into finals week.

Superfest is put together by our very own university organizations to provide relief during the time in our school year that is most hectic. It is advisable to take part in the free food, games, activities, and live entertainment.

According to many, the T-Pain concert is a much anticipated event that students are planning to attend. Don’t miss out on the 3 days of fun and excitement that will start on Thursday at noon and go on until Saturday.

It’s not every day that a Grammy-winning music artist visits Millersville University. T-Pain and company will be performing at Pucillo Gym on Thursday April 16, with doors opening at 7 p.m.

For all those who are curious, T-Pain’s real name is Faheem Rasheed Najm. He has been featured with so many other artists it would take forever to name them all. He seems to be in every pop/rap/hiphop song on the radio. Pretty much, if it’s not Akon or Lil Wayne featured in a song, it’s T-Pain.

He was originally in the rap group “Nappy Headz.” However, he put out his first solo CD in 2005, called “Rappa Ternt Sanga,” which simply means he wants to be a rapper. Instead, T-Pain became this rapper/singer phenomenon. It will be interesting to see the songs he chooses to sing here at Millersville University because T-Pain sings other artists songs much more often than he sings his own.

He has been in hit songs such as “Got Money” by Lil Wayne, “Cyclone” by Baby Bash and “All the Above” by Maino. Some of his more well known personal solo songs include “Church,” “Bartender” and “Snap Yo Fingers.” T-Pain should be extremely entertaining, not only because of his musical abilities, but because of his performance abilities as well.

Many Rappers take themselves too seriously, and put on this show of being big, bad and in demand. However, T-Pain apparently can make fun of himself too. He is featured on “The Lonely Island’s” CD Incredibad, which is a compilation of rap/pop parodies from the guys of Saturday Night Live. T-Pain lends his star-power to the track, “I’m On a Boat.”

The best thing about the song is that T-Pain sounds and acts exactly as he does on every other song he is featured on. But at the same time he is making fun of himself, and anyone who can make fun of themselves is obviously able to have a good time. Thursday’s performance should prove just that.

As is their purpose, the UAB (University Activities Board) planned and successfully executed a fun-filled afternoon on Saturday, Oct. 18. Campus Conquest took place in the Quad with a “Survivor” theme.

This event, according to Luis Salazar, a junior and the chairman of Campus Conquest, can be described as a “messy field-day.”

Four teams participated in events that got them dirty, muddy, and wet; these teams were the Diehm Team, Team Patriot Act, the B Team, and Scorched Earth.

Salazar managed to pull off the event with no major problems, thanks to careful planning.

“It’s definitely a lot of fun,” said Salazar. “I had a lot of fun planning it.”

Salazar was hard at work planning Campus Conquest back in July, integrating activities from the previous Campus Conquests that had worked well before, according to IanLong, the co-advisor of the UAB.

Long found that the event the students thought to be the most fun was Steal the Bacon. This involved two teams fighting over a tire that was placed in between them in homemade mud.

“It’s fun and very messy,” said freshman Becca Douglass, a member of the Diehm Team, the winners of the first round of Steal the Bacon.

Karaoke was another contest that provided plenty of entertainment. Each team chose a song that they sung along with and danced to; some teams were more rehearsed than others. Team Patriot Act won the karaoke section of the afternoon.

“I’m really excited,” said junior Kaila Repman, a member of Team Patriot Act. “We practiced for an hour this morning before we came.”

Both Douglass and Repman said they plan on participating again next year.

Participants also enjoyed getting messy while scavenging for cardboard survival items in a baby pool filled with a concoction of water, shortening, flour, leaves, maple syrup, whipped cream, eggs and sticks.

Other activities included an egg toss, balloon blast, a pie eating contest, a big pants sponge toss, tug of war, chariot races, a soaked sponge relay and an obstacle course.

The grand-prize winner was Team Patriot Act who won about $200 for their efforts. The Diehm Team came in second while Scorched Earth and the B Team tied for third.

Overall, the UAB’s co-advisor felt the event went well.

“I think the participants had a great time,” said Long. “It’s such a fun and low-stress event.”

This year’s chairman of Campus Conquest, Salazar, already looks forward to next year’s event. He does plan on running for the chairman position of the event next year as well and says that hopefully, it will be even better than this year’s Campus Conquest.

“It went really good,” said Salazar. “We had a really good time watching them get messy.”

[Web Ed. Note: See Also, Q&A with LIGHTS]

As it gets dark in Pucillo gym, Lights appears on stage, she is the first of the Boys Like Girls concert opening acts.

Though she does all the singing and playing on the record herself, Lights is accompanied by a drummer and keyboard player when playing live. She sang all six songs from her newly released EP, plus two that will be included on her full length recording due out in December.

Lights played keyboard and keytar during most of her song. When she just sang, she danced around the stage in bare feet or perched herself on an amp, sitting with her knees up to her chin and her arms wrapped around her legs.

Lights was absolutely adorable, when she sang, spoke or just stood there. Most of her songs are sweet, whimsical, little pieces.

“I feel bright when you stand near/ I know what I am when you are here/ My place becomes so clear.”

Next up was Cute Is What We Aim For. It appears they should aim a little higher.

This was the second time I have seen them live, and honestly, they did much better last time.

I remember really enjoying their show at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster City. However, this time around they just did not match up.

Plus, the fact it was the first time I have ever heard a shout out for all guys who give girls a few more drinks to make things a little easier. Sound like winners to me.

The back up singer should consider taking the lead and the lead singer may just want to find a new job. All in all, their set was nothing too special.

Then Boys Like Girls came on and everything was ok. They put on an amazing show. Lead singer, Martin Johnson , said he did not care if you loved or hated them or if someone had dragged you to the concert, he wanted to see you move while you were there.

No one seemed to have a problem with this, as everyone was jumping up and down and dancing throughout their set. BLG played most of their hit songs, along with a cover of Frou Frou’s “Let Go.”

This was possibly the most exciting concert moment I have ever experienced: one of my favorite bands doing one of my even more favorite bands songs, does not get much better than that.

Some bands fall short during live shows, but Boys Like Girls never once disappointed the crowd. Martin and lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni pretended to make out on stage and Martin came down and got up close and personal with the crowd.

Boys Like Girls played a long set of songs, including The Great Escape, Hero/Heroin, and Thunder.

The concert was an overall success and opened and closed brilliantly. Though Cute Is What We Aim For offended all girls with any respect for themselves, not even they could ruin a great show.

Lights was able to introduce her music to a whole new audience, one all too ready to fall in love with her. Boys Like Girls were able to entertain fans who already had all their songs memorized.
