Softball splits big doubleheader against Shippensburg Raiders

Last weekend the Millersville’s softball team was hard at work, playing consecutive double-headers against Shippensburg and West Chester University.

When they last played Shippensburg March 27, the Marauders swept the Raiders in a 6-5, 8-6 win.

Game one on Friday against the Raiders began with one run and three hits for Shippensburg in the first inning. Despite hard work and four hits, Millersville could not cross home plate until the top of the fourth inning. Allison Chew started off with a single, and advanced to second on Jill Golomboski’s bunt. Ally Homa also bunted, allowing Chew to make the turn to third. Lindsay Hosier hit a homerun to send both herself and Chew home, scoring two points for MU. Continue reading

Softball team captures wins against Slippery Rock and Holy Family

After being on the road at Kutztown University the Millersville softball team split a double-header against Slippery Rock University on April 10.

The day’s games brought the team’s season total to 17-22. However, the first game did not start off on the right foot. Slippery Rock managed to score two runs in the top of the first inning off of a double by Jenna Geibel who had an RBI and brought J. Kortz home. The other run was scored off of an error by the left fielder and Geibel herself was able to score. Continue reading

Softball continues tough fight

Since their big win over Shippensburg, the women’s softball team has been preparing for a tough upcoming schedule. On March 31, the Millersville softball team traveled to No. 22 West Chester University for the first of the week’s two doubleheaders.

Game one of the day was a slow start. The first inning came and went without a single run and only three hits. The second inning saw some action with Millersville’s Jamie Motsko homering early in the start. West Chester did not respond to the run until bottom of the sixth, when the Rams finally managed to bring two runners across home plate. Continue reading

Women’s softball wins double header

On a chilly Saturday afternoon, the Millersville women’s softball team played a double header against Shippensburg University at home. The day marked the team fifth and sixth PSAC Eastern Division contests of the season. Although the Lady Marauders were previously 0-4 in the division, last weekend they proved themselves capable of bringing home wins. “Going into the start of this game we knew that we needed to get two conference wins. It was very important for us, especially after our last two losses. We really were looking to make a statement at the double header vs. Ship,” outfielder Jill Golomboski said. Continue reading
