Millersville men’s soccer has taken their accomplishments to the next level after clinching the PSAC East division title for the first time since 1990.
On senior day, Millersville’s women’s soccer team rose together as one and sent their seniors, Sarah Cameron, Nicki Conzentino, and Jamie Lancaster off in style with an upset of one of the PSAC’S best teams, the Bloomsburg Huskies.
Once again, a Millersville Men’s soccer player was awarded the PSAC East player of the week.
It had been a long time since the women’s soccer team was lighting up the scoreboard. Finally after an agonizing stretch, the Lady Marauders broke out of their slump. Though the 6-0 drubbing of a hapless Chestnut Hill squad will not erase the memory of an eight game winless streak, it certainly is a positive. The trip to Philadelphia gave the team a break from the pressure of PSAC games in which every minute was a struggle.
Millersville Men’s soccer continues to roll as the season presses on. They have now won four straight and five out of their last six games since dismantling then-ranked fourth in the nation, East Stroudsburg, 4-1.
Just a month ago Millersville’s women’s soccer team was sitting pretty at 4-2 and averaging 2.7 goals a game. Things have gone south in a hurry. Since their hot start, the ladies have gone 0-6-2 scoring only four goals. While it would be easy to mail in the season, that has not been the case. Despite the recent struggles the desire has still been there. Of the eight losses, five have gone to overtime and another was a 1-0 loss to Kutztown.
Millersville men’s soccer team shutdown Kutztown on Wednesday September 17, however they came up just short of a late comeback against PSAC West foes, Merceyhurst this past weekend. The loss ended their undefeated run at six wins, yet could prove to be a vital lesson heading into the huge matchup against PSAC East leaders, East Stroudsburg on September 24. East Stroudsburg is fourth in the nation, according to the current NSCAA/ Adidas National Rankings.
Heading into the week of September 15 it seemed Millersville’s women’s soccer team had a chance to establish themselves as a force in the PSAC East. That opportunity was left on the table; Millersville dropped two contests to Kutztown and Edinboro respectively.
The Marauder’s men’s soccer team achieved two more big wins, continuing their historical winning run.
Lately it seems that Millersville’s women’s soccer team has the ability to flip the switch and score goals in waves. Last season, goal scoring was an issue, but this year those troubles seem like distant memories.
