<p>On April 17, McComsey Hall will host the Student Research and Visual &amp;?Performing Arts Conference from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The conference will feature former NASA?astronaut Dr. Donald Thomas as a keynote speaker.</p>
<p><strong>Honors/Awards Convocation</strong></p>
<p>Millersville University’s Honors and Awards Convocation will be held on April 18 and Paul S. Beideman, ’71, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Millersville University Alumni Association. This is the highest award an alumnus can receive.</p>
<p><strong>Spring concert</strong></p>
<p>Join the orchestra in our celebration of spring as we complete our season with a performance by Millersville senior and 2007-2008 Vyner Competition winner, pianist Jonathan Lefever. Free and open to the public, the event will be held April 22 at 8 p.m. in Lyte Auditorium,</p>

Jewelry and Metal Arts guild  to hosts open house</strong><br />
The Jewelry and Metal Arts Guild of Millersville University will host an open house on Friday, April 3, in room 229 of Breidenstine Hall from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The open house will feature an artists talk by goldsmith Wayne Lous Werner at 7 p.m. in room 122 Breidenstine Hall.<br />

Millersville hosts job fair</strong><br />
Employers from varying fields will be looking for applicants with all levels of experience at the Job Expo on Tuesday, April 7, in the Student Memorial Center’s Multipurpose Room from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Dress professionally and bring resume copies. Wellness Week will be held March 23 &#8211; 27.  Events will focus on spiritual, environmental, physical, social and emotional wellness. Events are sponsored by the Wellness Center, the Student Health and Wellness committee, and Peer Health Educators.</p>
<p><strong>Free help to quit smoking</strong><br />
The MU Tobacco Control project and Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) are holding free tobacco cessation programs for students and faculty.<br />
The program included one-on-one coaching,  two months of free nicotine replacement therapy, and educational resources. Student workshops will be held March 23, 30 and April 6 from 8 to 9 p.m. in SMC room 44. Staff and faculty sessions will be held March 25, April 1, 8 and 15 from noon to 1 p.m. in SMC room 49.</p>

<p><strong>Conference held for girls</strong><br />
Junior and senior high schools in Chester , York , Lebanon and Lancaster Counties selected four girls from each school to participate in the 2009 Women in Mathematics and Science Conference (WMSC) at Millersville University on March  31 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The keynote presentation at 9 a.m. will feature Dr. Janice Cuny, a program officer at the National Science Foundation.</p>
<p>The presentation is titled, &#8220;The Gender Imbalance in Computing: Does It Have to Be?&#8221; The girls will hear presentations throughout the day from “How I Became a Marine Biologist” by Dr. Dominique Dagit to a presentation on Harley Davidson engineering.</p>

This year’s Relay for Life will be  April 18-19, hosted by the University’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer. Teams must be made up of 8-15 people. The teams will stay overnight and take turns walking the track at Pucillo Gymnasium. All proceeds raised will go to the American Cancer Society. <p><strong>Town meeting with Spector</strong><br />
Millersville University will host a town meeting with U.S. Senator Arlen Spector (R-Pa.) on Feb. 23, at 11:15 a.m. in the Student Memorial Center’s Multipurpose Room. There will be a time for a question and answer session.</p>
<p><strong>Millersville to host Governor Ed Rendell’s press conference </strong><br />
On Feb. 26, Millersville will host a press conference for the governors proposed  “tuition relief plan.” President McNairy will be joined by Governor Rendell and the Present of Millersville Council of Trustees, Mike Warfel.  The proposed plan will help undergraduate resident students that are enrolled in any of the 14 PASSHE schools. The program would be paid for by the legalization of video poker.</p>

Millersville University is hosting Carnival Day on Saturday Feb. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. on the second floor of Pucillo Gymnasium.  Millersville Athletic teams will have activities for children related to their sport. ?The event will take place during the men’s and women’s basketball games against West Chester. It is a chance for local children to interact with student athletes.  The event will feature free giveaways. ?The first 75 people in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.  There will also be appearances by J.J.?Jumper, the NCAA Basketball mascot and Cylo, the Lancaster Barnstormers mascot.<br />
<strong><br />
Basketball teams raising breast cancer awareness</strong><br />
On Valentine’s Day, Saturday Feb. 14, MU basketball will not only will host?Kutztown, but will be honoring a worthy cause. The Pink Zone, formerly known as “Think Pink,” is a global effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court and across campuses. ?The lady Marauders will be wearing pink wristbands and shoe laces. ?T-shirts will be given to people who make donations to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Kay Yow, the former head coach of the North Carolina State women’s basketball team, passed away on Jan. 24, 2009 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. Carnations will also be handed out to women in attendance.  Tip-off for the game is 1 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>Text message alerts for Millersville sports</strong><br />
Millersville students who cannot attend sporting events can now get scores and updates sent right to their cell phones.  The Millersville Athletic Department now sends out text message alerts to update fans on news and scores of their favorite teams.  One of the popular features of this new service is the ability to customize the kind of alerts the subscriber wishes to receive.  Users can choose which sports they wish to receive alerts about, selecting as many or as few sports as they wish.  Information such as scores, general news and award winners will be sent out during and after games. Those who wish to receive the alerts can sign up for free www.millersvilleathletics.com and can unsubscribe any time they would like.</p>

Christine Brennan, sports columnist for USA Today, will visit campus on Tues., Feb 17 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public and will take place in  Armstrong Auditorium in Caputo Hall.</p>

SWAT?accepting applications</strong><br />
Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), a statewide tobacco programming campaign, strives to get information out to the campus community about tobacco and related issues. SWAT works on tobacco policy, prevention and cessation. Students can earn $500 for 56 hours of work. Application deadline is Feb. 3 at 4 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>Library to host game night</strong><br />
On Feb. 5, 2009,  Ganser Library will be hosting its first gaming event – “Got Game? BRING IT!”  Open to Millersville students, faculty &amp; staff, the event will feature a Wii™ Rock Band® tournament, Wii™ bowling, and open-play time. The event will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on the third floor of Ganser Library.</p>

Federal Judge Paul Diamond has dismissed all charges against Millersville University of Pennsylvania and has issued a verdict in favor of five Millersville University administrators and against Stacey Snyder. The photograph in question showed Snyder wearing a pirate hat with a cup in her hand, and the caption, “Drunken Pirate” below the photo. Snyder attended Millersville from June 2002 to May 2006 and earned a bachelor’s degree in English, rather than a bachelor’s degree in education because she did not meet the requirements to become a teacher.</p>
<p><strong>Missing Monday classes</strong><br />
Students who missed class on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will have to make up classes on Sat., Jan. 24. Monday night classes will meet Fri., Jan. 25 after 5 p.m.</p>

Grover Gouker, better known as Santa Claus, will be visiting the University Store at noon on Dec. 4. He will speak and share from his books My Santamental Journey and I Don’t Want No Soap. Light refreshments will be served.<br />

New dessert added to Gordinier</strong><br />
A Turkey Hill Creamery was added to Cygnet’s in Gordinier Hall. Mix-ins, soft serve and hand-dipped ice cream is available throughout the semester.</p>
<p><strong>Holiday safety and decorations</strong><br />
While the University asks that you use artificial greenery, we are making accommodations to treat your live greens through Facilities Management. You must bring the tree, wreath, or garland to the Bishop building and allow 48 hours for the item to be treated, and for it to dry, before picking it back up. The tree, wreath, or garland will be tagged to verify that it has been treated. Only tagged Christmas trees, wreaths, and garlands are permitted inside campus buildings. Those found without a tag will be removed. The live tree/wreath/garland must be removed from the campus building no later than Jan. 4. in addition, Christmas tree lights or other electrical decorative devices are prohibited inside campus buildings.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Festivities to benefit students</strong></p>
<p>Millersville University food service is sponsoring the first annual gingerbread house decorating contest.  It is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community. To participate, entrants must be registered by Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. All entries for judging are due to the food service department in Gordinier Hall on Dec. 2 and will be received between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. only. Judging will be conducted on Dec. 4. Winning houses will be sold at a silent auction that will be held at the Glorious Sounds of the Season concert on Dec. 6 and 7. The proceeds will benefit the Glorious Sounds Scholarship for music students.</p>
<p><strong>VDAY looks for volunteers</strong></p>
<p>Vday organizers are looking for volunteers to help in the Vagina Monologue production. The production is focused on ending sexual violence aimed at women and embracing the role of women.</p>
