A life with autism: Temple Gradin to lecture

By Nina Theofiles on March 4, 2010

Millersville University is known for an intensive and comprehensive education program. And as I walked into my first education class four years ago, Cheryl Desmond’s words stuck with me as soon as I heard them: “People first language, always put your students first.” As I approach the ending of my career at Millersville as an Education Major, nothing could be more true. As I student teach and interact with students on a daily basis I am more than thankful for her kind and encouraging words. Students need encouragement and compassion, and that is just a gem of everything Millersville has taught me about education.

Dr. West Lecture

By Dr. Barb Stengel on February 4, 2010

If there’s a university that has a better line-up of lecturers year in and year out than we do at Millersville, I haven’t yet found it. Coming to campus soon are accomplished animal behaviorist Temple Grandin and Yevgeni Yevtushenko, whose willingness to speak out through his poetry encouraged generations of Russians to recognize Soviet atrocities toward Jews.

How to: Get the most out of life

By Ashley Keefer on January 28, 2010

Pick a major: We will spend the majority of our lives working, so it is very important to pick a major in a field that you will enjoy and find success in. Sometimes this can be a daunting, stressful task. After speaking with numerous professors, this is the general consensus on how to pick a major with ease: First, discover where your natural talents are. Next, you have to decide which natural talents bring out happiness and excitement in you. You should enjoy what you are doing. Remember to be realistic about your talents, and understand that there will be unattractive aspects to every field.
