Men’s and women’s indoor track and field competed at the Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday, Feb. 13. After setting several school records last meet, Millersville students had an impressive act to follow and they left quite a mark yet again. Kim Stokes tied the school record at the pole vault, with a height of 3.05 meters. The Millersville University team left Bucknell with many of our own students qualifying to compete in the PSAC championships.

Elicia Anderson, Rebekah Moore, and Brittany Arnold all qualified for the women’s 3,000 meter run. For the men’s team, Josh Foulds and Jim Boyer previously qualified for the PSAC championships, and they ran qualifying times at Bucknell as well. Keith Ogden and Derrick Bass also qualified for the championships on the men’s team.

The championships will be held on Feb. 27 and 28 in Edinboro. Chrissy Savage qualified for the 400 meter and the 200 meter races in the PSAC championships. Emily Francisco ran a mile in a little over five minutes, which qualified her in the one mile run. She qualified in the 800 meter run as well. Stephen Boyd qualified in the long jump and in the triple jump.

Other notable successes for Millersville students include Sarah Mulvey and Michelle Blum, who finished first and second in the 800 meter run. Jess Ryan finished fourth in the long jump. “Yesterday’s meet was fun, I was happy that I ran a seasonal best in the mile (5:30), but disappointed in my 800 time because it was three seconds slower than I ran two weeks ago. However, I think in general everyone did a good job and tried their best. The friendliness and team spirit on our team makes every meet fun,” said Mulvery, who finished first in the 800 meter run.

The next track meet is on Feb. 19. Both the men’s and the women’s teams will be competing at the Susquehanna Invitational in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. After that, their next competition will be at the PSAC championships.
