Looking ahead to 2010 NBA finals
We’re finally here. After a grueling stretch of 82 games, the top 16 teams in the NBA this season have been established and the contenders have separated themselves from the pretenders. However, each remaining team has work to do as they compete to become the sole survivors when all is said and done with the 2009-2010 season. So as we march our way to the finals I will do my best, for you faithful readers, to narrow down series winners round by round until the championship. Let’s start things off with the first round in each conference.
Lady Marauders dominate Mansfield Mountaineers
On Feb. 27, the Lady Marauders faced the Mansfield Mountaineers on the basketball court in Pucillo gymnasium. The met only to blow the Mountaineers away with a 72-42 win.
The first shot of the game was a three-pointer made by Ashley Moyer, which was one of many throughout the game. Moyer’s score was followed by two more from Dominique Stroman, with an assist by freshman Mashira Newman. Newman also assisted Jenna Craig with the next two points before she began her turn at the net.

A: “I am majoring in History because I am a critical thinker. I am a very detail-oriented person and like to think outside of the box. My ideal job would be to travel the world and do research related to African-American history.”
Q: How long have you been playing basketball?
A: “I started playing when I was 13, in sixth grade.”
Men’s basketball loses final game of 2010 season to Mansfeild Mountaineers
The Marauders once again came up short losing 76-68 in the last game of the season against Mansfield Saturday afternoon. The loss ends Millersville’s season with a record of 8-19 overall and only 3-11 in conference play. The team also ends the season losing four straight games as well as a dismal 1-9 in their last ten games.
Athletes of the Week
This week we have selected sophomore Mike Seibert as the male athlete of week. Seibert is a guard on the men’s basketball team. He had a very impressive week on the basketball court, with a highlight game on Monday, Feb. 15, at home against Shippensburg.
Women’s basketball triumphs over two consecutive teams
Over the past week, the Millersville women’s basketball team has played two games. On Feb. 3, the team entered Pucillo gymnasium to face off against the East Stroudsburg University Warriors.
Women’s basketball continues stellar season, PSAC division leaders: Lady Marauders battle to become ranked 24 nationally in Division II
This season, the Millersville women’s basketball team has been on fire. The Lady Marauders are ranked a No. 24 in their division. The team is 5-1 in conference games, and 15-4 overall.
The Marauders have worked hard to get where they are this season. They currently hold top spot in the PSAC Eastern Division rankings. “We put our own pressure on ourselves everyday at practice,” said coach Mary Fleig. Their hard work has been paying off.
Mens Basketball loses to Mansfield
The men’s basketball team’s latest loss to Mansfield Saturday, was a game that the team needed to win in order to help keep their playoff hopes alive. However, the Mansfield Mountaineers were too much for the Marauders as they fell 67-64. This is the first time Millersville has lost to Mansfield three straight times since the 1983-84 season.
