Letter to the Editor: “Do what you love and money will follow?”
Letter to the Editor: “The philosophy being fed to college aged people by various higher education hacks today is best summed up by the title of the book: “Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow.” Possibly? But who’s going to pay for it?”
The need for barriers and walls bring self dependence and discomfort
Everywhere one looks in Portugal, there is a walled fortress, sometimes left over from the Romans, but more often relics of a Middle Ages Europe that hadn’t yet gelled into anything like the nations we know today.
Biological attack likely for America
Lately in the news we have seen the report of attacks on the city of Mumbai, India. We have all witnessed what could have been an attack here at home affect those who are innocent, in a political conflict in a hostile region.
Spitting leaves a bad taste in mouths
When a baseball player spits sunflower seeds at the bottom of the ninth inning with all of the bases loaded, I’m often willing to overlook it. When someone on a reality television show spits part of their food out after having to eat rotten cockroaches, I’m also willing to forgive. However, when I walk to class and see young men and women spitting wads of saliva, I am less than impressed.
Hunting does not make the sports list
With the opening of deer season, many hunters are preparing themselves for a big and successful hunt. Many of these hunters hope to be sporty in their pursuit of a prized buck. However, for them to be sporty, it would imply that hunting is a sport. This is not the case.
A possible alternative to “Rate My professor”
Each semester, many students get a pleasant surprise in class: teacher evaluations. All non-tenured professors must complete student evaluations, while tenured professors are only required to do so every five years.
We are told that these evaluations are very important, since it can make or break whether a professor is promoted or considered for tenure.
On the campaign trail
As Barack Obama addressed the nation after the announcement came that he would assume the position as the next President of the United States, I could not help but bear in mind the gauntlet which Obama eventually overcame. Due to the inconceivable incompetence of the Republican campaign, Obama was able to make history.
With the country’s fat asses in couches, eating Doritos and watching Celebrity Wrestling, the rest of the country was embracing the onslaught of slander from both sides like hungry pigs to a trough.
TAP number trouble again
I’ll get right to the point. I, like many other students here, have a major problem with the way registration is run.
It makes sense of course that seniors get to pick classes first, being that they have the highest priority to finish up the classes they still need.
And afforable healthcare for all at all costs
Every election, candidates on the right or left, discuss plans to make healthcare “better, more affordable and accessible,” yet today in America, 15 percent of our population has no health insurance, at a time when costs are rising.
Even with health insurance, they pick what gets covered, and what does not. Necessary treatments and medications may not be covered for reasons entirely their own.
Presidency and race collide in 2008 election
Barack Obama’s election victory was a bittersweet pill for many people in this country.
All Americans can take pride in and celebrate the Obama presidency as a symbol of progress in the struggle for equality and civil rights.
