The fruit-throwers
Recently, the staff members at Gordinier Cafeteria have been trying to solve a mystery, one that makes very little sense and begs the question “Why would anyone do this?” The mystery I am writing about is the constant stealing and [...]
Summer charity benefits us all
As summer approaches, some of us look forward to relaxing with four months of beach fun and late night barbeque’s. Other people, such as myself, have a full-time job to look forward to in order to pay for school the next semester. In either case, you will more than likely experience some down time in which you might get bored, or just feel like doing something different. Charity work is a great outlet for these urges, and Pedals for Progress (P4P) is a great association to work with.
The film industry blurs the classics
As I was sitting in the theater waiting to watch “Clash of the Titans,” I heard several young kids, about 14, talking about the previews we were watching. When the preview for “A Nightmare on Elm Street” came on, one of the kids shouted “Freddy vs. Jason Two!” At this point, I realized these kids had no idea
what “A Nightmare on Elm Street” actually was. They had never seen, heard, or bothered to watch the original cult classic.
Driving Diversions
While driving on my way home for the weekend, I had the pleasure of encountering a few irresponsible and distracted drivers. People driving were texting or talking on their cell phones; not paying attention to the road at all. Cutting off other drivers, swerving into my lane, and simply not paying attention were all the things making me a bit nervous during my drive on Route 30 through York.
Texas politics corrode constitutional values
There are many ways to interpret, present, and discuss history. In fact, history may very well be one of the most subjective aspects of school curriculum. However, there are essential elements and practices that historians follow when discussing past events and people. Unfortunately, the Texas Board of Education decided it was going to amend history to fit its own ultraconservative and religious agenda. Just as a disclaimer, know that I am not a staunch anticonservative, nor am I a hardcore liberal, but I simply cannot stand watching the extremes on either end use their power to manipulate situations.
Do away with trays
For those students who frequent Gordinier cafeteria, you have surely noticed the lack of trays in the lunch room for the past two weeks. While some may find this to be inconvenient, it has actually helped to reduce waste in the dining hall. In a dinnertime discussion I had with Associate Director Gerry Shehan (the guy who answers your suggestion box questions), the two of us talked about the effects of Gordinier’s tray removal. Initially, the reason for getting rid of the trays was
because students were stealing them to go sledding after one of our major snow falls (a brilliant idea by the students). In all honesty, paying five dollars for a saucer sled seems like a much better way to go sledding. But hey, that is just me.
Millersville’s slippery pathways
Snow removal can be a big challenge for almost anyone. The snow we had over this past weekend proved to be quite a challenge for PENNDOT as well as our university. However, the deplorable conditions of the sidewalks and streets simply show a lack of concern on the university’s part. How difficult is it spread some salt, or maybe even run the plow truck over the street one more time?
For Gay Marriage
While at home over Winter Break, I could not help but overhear talk and news about the gay marriage debate. It occurred to me that the argument against gay marriage has many holes. Some claim that gay marriage makes a mockery of what they call “real marriage.” Others say that Christianity dictates that the same sex persons should not lay together, so they definitely should not be married.
What Christmas spirit?
As the Christmas season begins and Thanksgiving ends, I find myself wondering when the Christmas season actually, technically began.
Infirmary denies students medical excuses
For those of you who check your Marauder Mail on a regular basis, you probably saw the email sent out by the infirmary on October 29 regarding sick notes. Apparently the infirmary has become so inundated with students requesting medical [...]
