<li>Go to your teacher for any extra help or questions to help you understand the material as best as possible</li>
<li>Go to someplace quiet like the library or study area</li>
<li>Make index cards to better organize your notes, plus it acts as a tester to really see if you know your stuff</li>
<li>Start studying for a test a couple weeks before it is assigned</li>
<li>Pace yourself, don’t sit down and cram all the info into your brain at once give yourself 10 minute breaks every hour or so</li>
<li>Studying your notes right before you fall asleep helps it to stay in your head better because it is the last thing you are thinking before you go to sleep</li>
<li>Go to any study groups your teacher may be providing</li>
<li>Study with a friend or classmate, talking it out with someone else helps you remember the information better</li>
<li>Keep up with the reading in the textbooks</li>
<li>Eat something with protein in it (turkey sandwich, veggie burger, peanut butter bar) it is proven to help keep you sharper and alert</li>
<li>During class write down more than meets the eye, more is better and then,  when it comes time to make note cards or organize your information you can weed out the important facts</li>
<li>Remember key words that will help you remember the main points</li>
<li>Create Mnemonics which are devices that help you memorize things, a basic example is “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally”</li>
<li>Make a study guide</li>
<li>Quiz yourself</li>
<li>Study during the week, don’t depend on the weekends to do all of it</li>
<li>Study during the day, what takes you an hour during the day may take you an hour and half at night</li>
<li>Study the harder things first when your mind is fresh</li>
<li>Record a tape with everything you need to memorize, listening to it will help get the information into your head easier</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Everyone has heard about the new law being passed around campus about the clean air act.  This act has been trying to crack down on smoking around the campus completely.  This is a hard ban to put on a campus where a lot of students smoke.  All in all, now is the perfect time to quit smoking completely.  Smoking does a lot more to your body and to your health than you think.  Smoking can cause damage to your body that is not curable.</p>
<p>There are three major problems that smoking and tobacco use can leave on your body; you can develop heart disease, cancer, and lung problems.  According to Ehealthmd.com, smoking is responsible for 30 percent of all heart attacks and cardiovascular deaths, 30 percent of all cancers, 87 percent of all lung cancer deaths per year, and 82 percent deaths due to emphysema and chronic bronchitis.  These are huge issues that can occur in your body that cannot be cured.</p>
<p>Other than the changes to your organs, it also makes obvious changes to your skin, making it age quicker, having yellow fingernails, and having yellow teeth.  Smoking also quickens the disease of osteoporosis, which is a disease that weakens all the bones in your body.  This allows you to break bones easier and to become weak when you are older.</p>
<p>Smoking during pregnancy is worst than smoking when you are not perceiving a child.  Smoking harms and damages an unborn baby inside the womb.  It also increases the chances of having a miscarriage, premature baby, or even a death of a baby.  When you smoke while you are pregnant, you reduce the child’s weight by a half of a pound.  This half of a pound can be crucial to the child’s health because the child could only weigh to be only 3 or 4 pounds.  This makes it harder for the child to survive their first month.</p>
<p>The child can also develop ADD or ADHD and behavioral issues when they are older, while having less of an IQ than an average person their age.  This is serious because not only are they suffering the first month of being premature, but they have to suffer the rest of their lives having to deal with ADD or ADHD, and having a lower IQ.</p>
<p>It is very important to stop this habit now and not have it affect your life later.  According to Americanheart.org, it is said that people who quit smoking are more likely to have their heart failure to improve.  There are plenty of ways to get help with quitting, and ways to prevent it completely.  First ways to get help is going to the counselors on campus and to set up an appointment.  They can suggest helpful tips and ways to prevent smoking.</p>
<p>Other tips would be to keep yourself busy.  This will make it harder for you to take time out to smoke.  Also to surround yourself with people who do not like to smoke because this will eliminate temptations.  Find replacements for smoking, rather than reaching for a cigarette grab a hard candy or drink coffee instead.</p>
<p>A major tip for smokers are if you do break down and decide to have a cigarette, make sure you do not give up!  Start new right then and keep going.  Overall, you just feel so much better when you have stopped smoking completely.  When you are thinking about quitting, begin an exercise workout.</p>
<p>Working out and exercising helps your body get rid of stress and all the damages that cigarettes cause.  Yoga is a great way to start with exercise because it really concentrates on your breathing, and deep breathing can help you take away an urge to smoke.  Yoga is a great class to learn how to breathe correctly and to ease your body into exercising.  Exercising also helps you drink more water.</p>
<p>Drinking water can help you in many ways and most people do not drink enough water, but it also helps you flush all the nicotine out of your body.  Quitting can help your body, your future and your lifestyle.  It will save you so much money over time for not buying tobacco. products and can save your life. goals.  Set a date to when you want to stop smoking and set a limit of cigarettes a day (with each day you lessoning the amounts of cigarettes).</p>
<p>Be positive about quitting and always be aware of why you want a cigarette.  When you figure out the problem of why you want to smoke, than sooner or later you can eliminate that issue.</p>

<li>After your hot shower, for the last fifteen seconds, switch to cold water then turn up the heat a little, and down again to repeat the process for about two minutes. It revitalizes the skin by stimulating the flow of blood through the body.</li>
<li>Use a good moisturizer that provides SPF 30 protection barrier against the chemicals in the air</li>
<li>Use a good moisturizing lip balm for your lips</li>
<li>Exfoliate at least twice a week; it helps to take away the dead skin cells and keeps your skin fresh and smooth and helps the skin absorb extra moisture</li>
<li>Drink a glass of hot water with lemon in it.  It will let your body clean the blood faster to get rid of any toxins responsible for bad skin</li>
<li>Get plenty of rest</li>
<li>Eat foods high in heart healthy oils to lubricate you from the inside out</li>
<li>Get a humidifier</li>
<li>Use a mild soap so it doesn’t strip the essential oils you need in your skin to help keep it hydrated</li>
<li>Make sure to use a lubricant when shaving so it doesn’t leave your skin dry</li>
<li>Wear gloves when going outside so your hands don’t flare up and get chapped</li>
<li>Shed any wet clothes or shoes immediately; these can irritate the skin and cause your skin to flare up</li>
<li>Flaxseed oil is available in oil or capsule form. Its rich in vital fatty acids and moisturizes you from the inside out and can do a lot for your overall health</li>
<li>If you take baths, add a few drops of jojoba oil or almond oil to it as they nourish your skin</li>
<li>Try and avoid the hair dryer, it dries out the scalp</li>
<li>Don’t overheat your home, excessive heat draws out the moisture in your skin</li>
<li>Don’t use shower gels, they have a lot of alcohol in them which can dry out your skin</li>
<li>Use masks that only remove impurities but also replenish moisture</li>
<li>If you wash your hands constantly be sure to use a moisturizer on them afterwards so they don’t dry out</li>
<li>Take care of your feet as they tend to become dry and cracked during the winter</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Winter is right around the corner, which means that you are probably going to be staying indoors.</p>
<p>Also, it is almost finals, so everyone on campus might be a little under the weather and over-whelmed. Everyone gets cabin fever sometimes, so here are a few tips for how to stay happy and healthy this winter plus all of these tips will not cost you one dime!</p>
<p>Rather than buying yourself presents to make yourself feel better, try working on your bonds and strengthen your social bonds between friends.</p>
<p>Try placing colorful pictures or flowers around your dorm room.  The colors of the flowers remind you of the summer and the sun.</p>
<p>Petals of flowers have been shown to give positive emotions.  We know that school can be negative but, according to directory M articles, the best way to fight off negative energy is to put positive energy back into it.  Positive energy will make you and the people around you feel better.  Another way to stay happy this winter is to set an easy goal.</p>
<p>This goal can be as easy as you want, such as cleaning up your dorm desk or organizing your school binders.</p>
<p>This is a great way to stay happy because when you accomplish it, you sense control over your life.</p>
<p>This allows you to feel in control even when you feel out of it.  Other ways to feel happy is to have snacks that you have not had in years.</p>
<p>This will not only make you have a good taste in your mouth, but it will bring back good memories.</p>
<p>Even though you might not have  much time due to studying, you should always make time for any sort of work out.  Working out is known to release hidden stress.</p>
<p>Whether you run ten miles or take a jog around campus, just moving around is a great way to stay happy.</p>
<p>The happiest people feel that they have control and power over their own time.</p>
<p>It is okay to say that you are booked for a lunch date with someone at the Upper Deck and take time for yourself.</p>
<p>When you decide to go on that lunch date with friends, it is proven that if you walk the long way back to your dorm, you can actually become happier just by switching up your busy routines.</p>
<p>While you are studying for ten hours on one class, make sure you take breaks and completely take your mind off the subject for ten minutes.  It is bad to focus on something for that long. Get up and walk around to let your brain have a break from staring at your studying materials. Staring too long can cause your head to hurt.</p>
<p>While you are taking a much needed break, remember to laugh or smile.</p>
<p>Laughter is the best endorphin.  Maybe take a break and go into the North Side Bistro and eat.</p>
<p>It is shown that having color  for foods on your plate triggers different feelings.  Make sure you color code your meals and have a rainbow assortment on your plate.</p>
<p>Over all, just make sure you take an interest in yourself this winter and make sure you do not take yourself too seriously.  Live a little and be successful.</p>
<p>Have fun with life. School is just one part of your entire journey on this earth. When it comes to studying and exams, the only thing you can do is try and hope for the best.</p>
<p>And if you don’t do well on a certain test, just let it go and try harder for the nest one during the semester.</p>
<p>There is so much going on with school so if you try these tips you will be set.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Halloween is a time for fun and dressing up but there are also over 4,000 other ghosts, murderers and zombies walking around too.  This is a great time for anyone who loves to dress up in costumes, loves getting candy and having a good time.  Halloween will be here before you know it.</p>
<p>This would be a great time to look for your awesome costume, but for college students this might hurt your bank account a little.</p>
<p>We all know that costumes are getting more expensive, skimpier, and boring… but this does not mean your costume has to be!  In this day and age, sex definitely sells but I think that it is pushed a little bit too much for Halloween.</p>
<p>We all remember when witchs dresses were made to go down to your ankles and now you never see a witchs dress come down past the thigh.  Every costume these days went from being scary to provocative.</p>
<p>It is also strange how every year you try to buy something different to be for Halloween, and then you go out just to see 50 other people wearing the same thing you are.  It is very frustrating also, how you go to buy a costume and you have seen them all before.</p>
<p>They ask you to pay 75 dollars to be a “sexy pirate” but you could be one for cheaper if you were just creative.  You can always see what you already have to use in your costume or go to your local thrift shop to get cheap clothing that you could sew or cut to create a perfect costume.</p>
<p>To make things easier on your wallet, you can buy fabric and sew your costume.  This may take some time, but it makes your costume custom fitted, and looking exactly how you want it.</p>
<p>There’s alot of things you can find around your house too that you can use to make a fun, creative costume. A fun costume you could make yourself is take a cardboard box and cut holes on the sides and bottom and make yourself a present.  To top it off top yourself off with a big red bow.</p>
<p>Halloween, as you may know, has been started as a tradition and also means “All Hallows Eve” or the night before “All Souls’ Day” which is on November 1.  This was a day for Episcopalians and Lutherans to observe all the Saints in heaven, known or unknown.</p>
<p>The Catholics were obliged to attend mass and it was believed that on Halloween, the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved.</p>
<p>A pumpkin carved out with a light in the middle, is also known as a jack-o’-lantern, because in history the head was known to be the most powerful part of the body.  This was thought because your spirit and your knowledge came from your head.  Witches have always had a long history with Halloween.</p>
<p>It is said that witches gathered twice a year when the seasons changed.  One date would be April 30, the eve of May Day, and October 31, All Hallow’s Eve.</p>
<p>It was said that the witches gathered for a party hosted by the devil and the witches would cast spells on unsuspecting people to do mischief and turn them into different forms.</p>
<p>The myth of black cats also became known from Halloween and witches.  It was said that witches would turn into a black cat so they would not be seen.</p>
<p>So it was known that if a black cat cross your path, then you need to turn back or bad luck would haunt you.</p>
<p>What is very interesting about Halloween is because of the American pop-culture, they got other regions such as Japan, Germany, and Spain to have Halloween become very popular.</p>
<p>There are other myths that relate to Halloween such as if you walk underneath a ladder than its said you will have bad luck for seven days.</p>
<p>Halloween used to be full of customs and fun festivities but over the years it has turned into this spooky, haunted day.</p>
<p>More and more kids are dressing up in scary costumes other than fun kiddy costumes such as cartoon characters, fairies, animals and movie stars.  Now when you walk the streets you see scary masks, the famous moviestar killers.</p>
<p>The more scary movies that kids watch, the more they want to be dressed in horrifying costumes.</p>
<p>Its not a good impression that scary movies are protraying on kids.  Studies have shown that because of the things kids see on on tv has a big impact on their well being.</p>
<p>This night can be very enjoyable, but just remember to stay with people that you know and make sure you are walking with the right monster, you like to call your friends.</p>
<p>Make sure you have a way to call your friends if you get away from them and make sure you never leave your stuff unattended.</p>
<p>If you are to go out to do the infamous trick-or-treating, just remember that there are many children that are going to be out doing the same thing.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In today’s society, people feel obligated to look their best at all times.  They do things like buy fashionable clothing, change their hair color, and even whiten teeth.  To their surprise, teeth whiteners may look better than what they are actually doing to your pearly whites.</p>
<p>There are three types of whitening procedures for your teeth.  There are the brush-on whitening methods where you take a pen with the formula in it and paint it on your teeth and let it dry.  This is bad because it is so simple to have the formula be rubbed off before it dries.  When it finally does dry, it leaves part of your teeth whitened and the other part the old color.</p>
<p>The second method of whitening is strips.  These are stripes that you put on your teeth for a designated time but you must be careful not to put the strips against your gums, because the strips may cause discomfort or irritation.</p>
<p>The third method involves trays with bleaching gel in them. The trays form to the teeth and must be kept in for an extended time. This is bad because you cannot control where or what it bleaches.</p>
<p>According to ezinearticles.com, hydrogen peroxide or carbomide peroxide are used in various whitening products.  These chemicals, if not used properly, can actually burn the pulp and nerves inside of your teeth.  They can also wear the enamel off of your teeth that helps protect them from cavities and sensitivity.</p>
<p>Research shows that by using teeth whiteners, the chemicals can change the color around the edge of your teeth, from white to a bluish-translucent tint.</p>
<p>When this happens, your teeth become very frail and brittle.  People who use over-the-counter products have had complaints about their teeth becoming very sensitive.  Others they become addicted to whitening their teeth and this obsession is known as “bleachorexia”!</p>
<p>Last year alone, Americans spent more than $1.4 billion on over-the-counter teeth whitening products.  This product is the number one requested cosmetic service today.</p>
<p>Celebrities are constantly displayed on covers of newspapers and as focuses of news reports, always basking in the public’s view, looking fantastic in every shot and interview; How do they do it? Only they know for sure but this reporter thinks it may have a little something to do with a bit of cosmetic enhancement.</p>
<p>People are spending thousands of dollars on whitening at the dentist also.  When you go to the dentist to get your teeth whitened you spend a lot of time and money on the same results you get over the counter. After a dental whitening process your teeth will be vulnerable and you will only get to eat the “white diet,” which includes fish, chicken, rice and water.</p>
<p>Using teeth whiteners may not be safe but there are many different ways to whiten your teeth.  You could brush your teeth with baking soda. Others just use toothpaste with whitening in it.</p>
<p>Using this toothpaste is beneficial because there is only a little bit of the hydrogen peroxide or carbomide peroxide in it but not enough to be harmful.</p>
<p>Another way to avoid getting your teeth yellow or discolored is to drink everything through a straw.  This eliminates the chances of the coffee or your favorite drink to touch your teeth to stain them.   Not smoking also lessens your chances of having yellow teeth as well.</p>
