The Marauders mens’ tennis team continued their woes through the week falling to Edinboro on Friday, Mercyhurst on Saturday and Kutztown on Sunday. The string of losses marks six in a row for the Marauders, dropping them to 2-9 on the spring season and 0-4 within the PSAC.
Friday the Marauders were outlasted by No. 4 ranked Atlantic region Edinboro at a score of 9-0. The outing was far from desirable, as freshman Pearson Clary was the only MU player to play his match further than straight sets.
Millersville elected in favor of a change in the lineup, but it was to no avail as the pair of Jody Sambrick Jr. and Kevin Tran fell at the No. 1 doubles position by the score of 8-4. Newly formed pair Dylan Ryan and Tucker Mertz also dropped their doubles match 8-1.
Heading back home, the Marauders looked to snap their four match losing streak at the McComsey courts Sat. For the second consecutive match MU was swept in their singles, falling to the Mercyhurst Lakers (5-7, 2-1 PSAC) 9-0.
Once again the Marauders failed make much of a contest as none of the players managed to advance play further than straight sets. Much of the same trend occurred in doubles play, with all three doubles units falling including Jody Sambrick Jr. and Kevin Tran 8-4.
Rounding up their third match in three days, the Marauders looked to break their five match losing streak and their two game span of winless singles matches against Kutztown who came into the match undefeated in PSAC play.
For the third time in a row, MU failed to record any victories in singles dropping the match 9-0. Once again, Pearson Clary was the only Marauder to advance to a three set match, ultimately falling 6-1, 6-7, 10-6. In regards to the lineup, freshman Christian Boyer started his first match of the spring in the six spot. Millersville was without their No. 1 Jody Sambrick Jr.
The Marauders will look to finish the spring season strong on April 10th at West Chester.
The Millersville women’s tennis team then battled Kutztown (8-4, 3-0 PSAC East) in a hard fought loss by the score of 5-4 Sunday at the McComsey courts. Although they were on the short end of the singles matches, MU managed to capture two of the three doubles matches on the day with Alexandria Heller and Stefanie Fisher (8-6) at the No.2 spot, and Nicole Daacke and Kaylora Thompson (8-4) claiming victory.
Daacke was not finished there, as she also gained a second point by outlasting Cynthia Good in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Sophomore Tori Davis also prevailed in straight sets over Tori Zander at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Senior Stefanie Fisher was involved in a three set battle with Chelsea Davis of Kutztown.
