This past Saturday the Millersville tennis team took on their big time rival school, Bloomsburg University, in a PSAC Division match up that held monumental implications. As guys’ singles started off the day, it was easily seen that Millersville would dominate. Winning numbers 1-5 singles as well as No. 2 and 3 doubles, the Millersville men’s team captured the win and with that win, started their climb up the rankings in the PSAC division.
The ladies also played with extreme vigor and fantastic mental fortitude as they took their match down to the wire, winning 5-4. The No. 1 doubles team of Melissa Plowman and Kelsey Waite won as they played extremely well together, and the team of Tori Davis and Liz Wagner won No. 2 doubles. As far as singles play goes, No.1 singles player Melissa Plowman cruised to an easy 6-2 6-1 win, No. 3 Liz Wagner shut out her opposition 6-0 6-0, and freshman hero, No. 5 Tori Davis won her singles match 6-4 6-4. With Davis’s win, Millersville secured the victory over BU, and there was an immense feeling of excitement and joy as players rushed the courts and celebrated. This was the first time since the 2004-05 season that the Millersville women’s team beat Bloomsburg University, and this win could not have come at a better time for the Marauders. They will look to build from this win, and they will see if they can keep their winning efforts alive this Saturday against West Chester.

The men’s tennis team easily handled the Huskies’ players in all of their matches.

Millersville played well this past weekend, but they will have to ensure that all of the loose screws are tight for this weekend’s match against West Chester. West Chester is coming off strong from a monumental upset against Kutztown University, and with that win, they are a strong contender for the number one spot in the PSAC. Millersville has the talent to overcome West Chester, but it should be a showdown. The match this Saturday is going to be a home match for the Marauders, and it is set to start at 12:00.
