This past weekend the Millersville baseball team partook in two double headers on Saturday and then two more on Sunday afternoon against Shepherd. Millersville drew even with Shepherd on Saturday as both teams took a win, but Sunday’s games were a different story. Solid pitching by Chris Murphy and Tad Barton along with a two run blast by Jeff Heisey propelled MU to win both games on Sunday and win the series against Shepherd.
The first game on Sunday went well as Millersville won convincingly with a score of 13-5. Pitcher Chris Murphy went 5.2 innings and allowed seven hits and three earned runs as he struck out eight on the day. Murphy was later named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week for his efforts this past weekend. Thus far into the season, Murphy really has put on a showcase of his talents, as he is now 4-0 on the season.
As far as hitting statistics go, there were multiple players who recorded two hits in the game including Tyler Orris, Zach Stone, Dan Johnson, Jeff Heisey, and Jeremy Musser. Musser led the team in RBI’s with his three, and Zach Stone and Jeff Heisey both led the team in runs scored with three each.

After the strenuous weekend, Millersville continues their schedule against Philadelphia on March 9th.

Getting to the second game of the double header, good things were seen again from Millersville. Jeff Heisey, who in the previous game registered two hits, got another two in this game with one being in the form of a two run homerun. This homer proved vital because the Marauders came away from this game with a close win with a score of 5-3. Pitcher Tad Barton went six innings with three earned runs and eight hits allowed. He struck out three, and improved his overall record to 1-1.
Two hitting streaks kept alive on Sunday were Zach Stone who extended his hitting streak to 11 games, and Tyler Orris who is now at a hitting streak of six games. Another interesting stat is that Orris has now reached base in all 12 games that he has been a Marauder.
Millersville played very well this past weekend, and they will look to continue this solid play on March 9th at 12:00 p.m. against Philadelphia. This matchup is another doubleheader, and it going to be played here at Millersville, so come out and support the team!
