The Presidential Search Committee at Millersville University has narrowed down the search for President Francine McNairy’s replacement to six candidates. These individuals will be invited to meet with representatives of the campus and local community throughout the month of October. The first candidate, Dr. John Anderson, visited campus from October 2-4 this past week.
Anderson, of New York, arrived at Millersville University Tuesday evening and has since had a full schedule of campus tours, meetings with the President’s Cabinet and two campus open forum sessions. These two sessions were held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Reighard Multipurpose Room in the Student Memorial Center.
Serving as the current president of Alfred State College in New York, Anderson has previous experience in strategic planning, raising funds, advocacy and recruiting. He also has experience in managing a university budget during the economic crisis and even budget cuts.
Additional positions include serving as executive vice president and provost at Hartwick College in New York and executive vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York Institute of Technology. Anderson holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics and a Ph.D. in education.
Once the additional candidates are confirmed, each campus visit schedule will be posted on the Presidential Search website, which can be found on the Millersville University homepage. Each candidate must attend two open forum sessions at the University during his or her scheduled visit. At the conclusion of the visit, the Presidential Search Committee will welcome the student’s written evaluations and impressions of the candidate.
