Title: Dr. Duncan Praises Handling Of Story on Building Delay
As an aftermath to the mid-January meeting of state officials to discuss the continued delays in the building of three Millersville State College structures President William H. Duncan released a statement to SNAPPER.
The meeting concerned the proposed field house stadium and student center.
At the meeting various state officials and state legislators praised the part played by SNAPPER in bringing the delays to their attention especially in the Dec. 11 issue.
Following is Dr. Duncan’s letter To the Editors of The Snapper.
I wish to commend the editors and staff of The Snapper for the manner in which you have reflected the interest and the concern of the Millersville student body over the inexcusable delays in providing a new gymnasium a new stadium and a new student center for the college.
Although the faculty the students and the community can rightly take pride in the construction which has taken place on our campus in recent years the seemingly complete lack of progress on these three projects has been both puzzling and frustrating.
I am convinced that the voice of the students as carried in your columns has been more effective in alerting appropriate Commonwealth officials to the seriousness of the situation than were all previous efforts by the college administration.
Placing the December issue of The Snapper in the hands of local legislators officials in the Department of Public Instruction and officials of The General State Authority helped greatly in prompting efforts which now seem to have resolved the problems existing between the state agencies and the architects.
The Snapper has been receptive and responsive to student opinion and has been highly articulate in communicating student judgment to the
public. Please accept my appreciation and my congratulations.
William H. Duncan
