MU Gospel Choir

By Emily Mace on March 1, 2010 in Features

“To allow students to worship and praise God and also to minister to many,” this is the mission statement for Millersville University’s own Gospel Choir, as stated by President of the Choir, Jonathan Love. Through song, dance, or any other mode of communication of the Holy Spirit, it is the Gospel Choir’s mission to lead people into the presence of Jesus. The Gospel Choir at Millersville has 25 active members who sing at some services on campus, many churches off campus, and at special on-campus events, such as admissions events and the Multi-cultural Showcase.

The Gospel Choir also performs at events which are not local. Jonathan Love said, “Gospel Choir will be on tour for the whole spring break, performing at Disney World in the downtown Disney area and also at the main stage in Universal Studios.”

President Francine G. McNairy will be presenting The Gospel Choir with the Living the Promise award this week. The Living the Promise Award recognizes students, faculty, and staff who live by the promise; “Millersville University offers an educational opportunity that is second to none.” This award is being given to the Gospel Choir for illustrating the true character of Millersville University.

In honor of Black History Month, the Gospel Choir will be singing the National Anthem at the men’s home basketball game Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. Millersville University’s Gospel Choir is a way to get involved in sharing the Christian faith with fellow students and showcasing vocal talents.

Anyone interested in joining the Gospel Choir or obtaining more information should attend a meeting. The Gospel Choir meets Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. in Chylse Hall.
