Behind the Desk: Professor Alan Foster

By Courtney Anderson on January 28, 2010 in News

Q: What is your favorite music?
A: Classic rock. I like the stories they tell, and the bass. I like the memories they evoke.

Q: What are your favorite television shows?
A: I’m a huge fan of sitcoms. I like “Modern Family.” I gotta see this “Jersey Shore,” because everyone talks about it.

Q: What is in your fridge right now?
A: The standard: milk, OJ, blueberry anti-oxidant health drink from Costco. It smells nasty but tastes good. We also have a lot of fruit and veggies, sliced ham, and pancake mix.

Q: What was your career like before being a professor?
A: I had three career tracks. I ran for county commissioner in Somerset County. I was also a photographer. I did weddings and portraits. (As a journalist) I did a couple dailies. My favorite was covering high school football and profiles. My biggest profile was Arlen Specter.

Q: What do you think about Specter in the news?
A: I was shocked when he changed parties. Tomey is a nutjob. It will be a tight race but I think Specter will win.

Q: What do you think of what Specter said to the female politician?
A: It really is an example of how uncivilized politics has become. They have really lost the capacity for a civil debate.

Q: What is your favorite thing to write about?
A: People. They are so interesting and varied and diverse. People are the most interesting things.

Q: What is your family like?
A: My wife’s name is Cindy and I have two sons, Harrison and McKinley. They are the most important things in my life. I married much better than my wife did. I married up, she didn’t.

Q: Is there anything else you want to say?
A: I am disappointed that journalism seems to be fading at Millersville and I hope the administration will support this program better.
