Greetings fellow Marauders, I am a new Opinion Writer for The Snapper and wanted to use this article to re-introduce myself to the campus. My name is Thomas Jones, and I say re-introduce myself because I once was a student here on this beautiful campus before, many, many moons ago.
My first go round I don’t believe I fully took advantage of everything this institution of higher learning had to offer. Being younger, I believe that I allowed a lot of outside forces dictate my movement (or lack their of). What I did and what I didn’t do.
I also let my dissatisfaction about some things that I felt were issues on campus (that needed to be addressed) sit inside me and fester. Fester to the point where I was totally unhappy with my college experience. Some of these issues that I witnessed at that time were race relations and what I felt was a lot of unfair treatment to minorities on campus.
In returning to the campus, I didn’t know what to expect. Just for the record, my mother was totally against me re-admitting to this university. She felt that due to my past experiences on the campus (which were negative) I should not return because I would be asking for trouble.
I assured her that due to my growth as a person (and from young man to a man) I would be fine. I think that it is safe to say in my first semester back I can see a lot of improvements to the campus (and its student body) with a lot more diversity.
Are things where they need to be maybe not, but if that is true, who has the power to change them, WE DO!! Thirty percent dissatisfaction equals change (some kind of minor change), but 100 percent dissatisfaction equals a universal change.
So not until you are 100 percent dissatisfied about a certain condition will you do whatever it takes to change it.
The only thing that is constant in life is change. If you object to the way something is being handled, I implore you to offer a solution, but do it in the right spirit and in the right manner.
We can infect change Eldridge Cleaver said “If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.”
I look forward to writing more articles that you hopefully will find interesting. Until next time I WISH YOU PEACE!!!!
