Choose your future choose, choose life

By amellinger on April 15, 2009 in Features

Before I plunge into the icy waters of the ever looming ‘real world,’ there are a few things I would like to say, and a few people I would like to thank.

For the past four years I have spent my life as a hardcore college kid. I have taken more useless classes than I care to remember, and learned more life lessons in the oddest places that I can never forget. I have changed my major four times and made and lost some great friends. I will never forget my time at Millersville University (my loan payments will make sure of that).

I joined The Snapper during my senior year and I regret not being a part of it sooner and spending more time with you wild and crazy kids. What a completely diverse group of people working hard to make an entirely student-run paper. It amazes me that so many people on campus are so ignorant to the work that goes into The Snapper. To all those people criticizing, yet doing nothing to help, “you are trashing my scene.”

Dr. Aaron Porter-you pushed me to learn in a way I did not even think I knew how. The books you hand selected for your classes will forever remain embedded in my mind, and on my bookshelf. You taught me a new way of looking at the world, and the people in it, that has changed my perspectives of everyone I see. You pushed me to work harder than I thought I was capable, yet, while it makes for an impressive accomplishment, I hope I never have to write another 30 page paper.

Dr. Carla Rineer-your eccentric personality and complete love for literature helped open new doors for my passions. You taught me that literature does not have to be a strict interpretation according to the one teaching it, it can be so many things to different people, all at once. You taught me to think outside the box and to really dig deep into how I read and understand things for myself. Your classes were vigorous and time consuming, but I learned how to truly comprehend a book, not just read the words on the pages.

To everyone I have met during my time at Millersville, those who have filled my heart with joy, and even those who have shattered it; I thank you for everything you have experienced with me because I am choosing my future, and I choose life.

Amanda is graduating with a degree in English and a minor in Sociology.
