After a Friday full of sporadic weather (from sunny to tsunami), the evening ended for over 200 students in the MPR for a few hours of hilarity. Comedian slash magician Justin Kredible (or Willman, as he grudgingly points out during the set) put on a fantastic show, incorporating mesmerizing sleight of hand, a hip soundtrack, and a smattering of innuendos and “that’s what she said’s.”
Kredible involved the entire crowd by pulled up student after student to be caught up in his tricks and jokes, one most popular of which involved a portable paper shredder, a twenty dollar bill, an orange, and a very nervous student.
His ability to make all his victims, or volunteers, have fun and feel at ease made the audience’s reactions all the more exciting (one trick involved the disappearance of a young woman’s very pretty, very expensive engagement ring).
After the show, I spoke to the couple who had been involved in the disappearing ring trick. They were both impressed by the show, and had been surprised to be called onto stage. “I never get called on stage!” sophomore Kate Goodlive said laughingly as she showed her ring around. “Maybe we’ll hire you to perform at our wedding!” joked her fiancée Morgan Schreffler, also a sophomore.
Kredible was charming after the show as he signed posters, sold DVD’s (you learn magic tricks!) and encouraged everyone to friend him on Myspace, Facebook and Twitter so they would know when to watch him on Rachel Ray with Miley Cyrus.
He seemed more than happy to pose with blushing students for pictures, and even gave advice to a student asking about the business. Jimmy Walck, a junior, wanted to know how an aspiring comedian would make it. “Be on stage as much as you can,” Kredible replied.
Being on stage is his passion, which his family completely supports, according to Kredible. His father encouraged him to go to college, “just in case”, so he graduated with a degree in Broadcasting from Emerson College in Massachusetts. Though he was voted Campus Entertainer of the Year by Campus Activities Magazine for the third year in a row (he was up against Dane Cook and Mike Super), he is very down to earth: he loves to take part in charity events, especially ones that benefit children.
As I’m sure majority of the female audience wanted to know, I felt obligated to ask the all important question. Does he have a girlfriend? “I’m newly single this year,” Kredible said with a grin and a wink.
There you have it, ladies! Spread the word about this hot, I mean, popular entertainer. Twitter him as Kredible, or check out his website, www.justinkredible.com to stalk slash find him on Facebook and Myspace.
