As the amount of comic book movies continues to rise, sometimes I stop and wonder what will be the result. Will the industry reach a peak and then fall?
Will good comic book plots be sucked dry and all that will be left will be plots hardly worth making a film about?
It is my hope, since I am a fan of comic movies, that creative plots will continue to bring our favorite heroes to the big screen.
While it is not my normal position to offer advice on a good book or film, I just have to tell you about a great chance to be entertained.
One comic movie in particular has caught my eye, that movie being “Watchmen”.
“Watchmen” is based off of the graphic novel has the same title. Writer Alan Moore and artist David Gibbons created a masterpiece when Watchmen was born, and hopefully the film will be just as great.
For those of you who do not know what a graphic novel is, the simple definition would be that it is an incredibly in-depth comic.
Graphic novels often have more complex plots, much more character development, and are usually published as one whole piece instead in several issues.
“Watchmen” is unique mainly because it focuses on the lives of retired heroes.
That is to say, after the heroes lose their masks, what happens to them? In this graphic novel, the heroes are made illegal and hence cast from society.
They face obscure lives where they long for the good old days of crime fighting. Some even do fight crime, but it is illegal vigilantism.
“Watchmen” is not great because of violence or gore, but rather the amazing character development that takes place throughout the entire novel.
I would highly recommend this book for any Psychology majors, because it offers an interestingly twisted view of the mentality of fictional heroes.
It is my hope that Hollywood did not butcher Watchmen when it was turned into a film. Too many books have been poorly presented in film, “Jurassic Park: The Lost World” and “Christine” being two examples that come to mind immediately.
However, based on the trailers I have watched about 20 times, “Watchmen” seems to be fairly consistent with the novel.
The graphic novel is one of the best books I have ever read and the fact that it is a graphic novel makes the story literally jump out at the reader.
Even if you are not a big reader, but enjoy comic-based movies, I highly recommend “Watchmen” as an easy and enjoyable read.
My fingers are crossed that “Watchmen” is worth watching, just as it was worth reading.

Totally, can’t wait for this movie.
People going in there expecting a typical super hero movie are going to be blown away.
