Hit me baby one more time: Britney’s comeback (again)

Whether you love her or hate her, it does not appear Ms. Spears is leaving anytime soon. Fresh off her sixth studio album (not including her greatest hits), Britney appears to have made her official comeback (for the second time).

Who knows how many more breakdowns and comebacks she is sure to have. However, mental instability aside, she does seem to possess the ability to put out one hit after another. Now, there will be those who will not ever pick up this CD for fear of what it will do to their social status. Then, there are those who probably had a “Britney Comeback” party the night before the CD was released. I was much closer to the former. I almost passed the CD over to review something a little more on my level. However, I decided to take one for the team and take a listen.

Here is where I should admit that I went kind of crazy over it. The title song on the CD, called Circus, is really catchy and describes Britney’s current status perfectly. She sings, “There’s only two types of people in the world/ the ones that entertain, and the ones that observe/ well baby, I’m a put-on-a-show kinda girl.” Yes, you are, Britney. Yes, you are!

Possibly the best song on the CD is Shattered Glass. She rants about a cheating boyfriend who is sure to want her back sooner or later. She promises, “You’re gonna see me, in your dreams tonight/ my face is gonna haunt you all the time.” I am pretty sure there are many willing to agree with this statement, Britney. Whether or not she haunts you is another story though. If you are looking for something to shake your butt to, this song is a must.

Actually, most of the CD is butt-shaking worthy, there are just a few slow tracks, including “Out From Under.” There is, however, one track on the album that seems to make about zero sense. If U seek Amy may be about Spears wanting to get with some chick named Amy (Hey, it worked for Katy Perry), but I was not quiet sure if that was what she was going for. Spears sings, “Love me hate me/ say what you want about me/ but all of the boys and all of the girls are beggin’ to/ if you Seek Amy.” Please tell me if this makes any sense?

If you are looking for substance “Circus” probably should not fall into your hands. But, if you are looking for some good songs to dance to, than Britney’s latest endeavor just might be the CD for you. And according to her song Kill The Lights, which focuses on attacking the paparazzi, she does not care whether you like her music or not. The song goes, “You don’t like me, I don’t like you, it don’t matter/ only difference, you still listen, I don’t have to.”
